#HTC has claimed that the company has sold about 140,000 units of the #Vive VR headset so far. This is quite impressive considering the fact that VR headsets are niche items that not everybody looks to buy. However, HTC can take heart in the fact that so many early adopters have shown faith in the new platform.
Unlike conventional VR headsets, the Vive VR requires a full blown computer to work. In this regard, it’s pretty much like the Oculus Rift. At $800, the Vive is not easy on the wallets either, so it’s pretty interesting how the company managed to sell these many units of the headset.
HTC is hopeful that this will spark hopes about the future of the VR industry and ultimately translate into profits for the company. The Taiwanese manufacturer has reportedly put all its eggs in the VR basket, expecting this to go big in the next few years and bring the company back to its old state.
Whether that will actually happen is only for time to tell. Have you bought the Vive or know someone who has? Make sure you let us know in the comments below.
