“Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped” error keeps popping up on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The error message “Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped” is just among other error messages any Android user may experience anytime. Troubleshooting “Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped” Error

The rule of thumb is to go after the app that’s specifically mentioned in the error message, so that’s the first thing we need to do. Then we will have to go after the apps that are possibly linked with the Gallery as they might have triggered the issue. After the apps and the problem still persists, then let us go after the firmware.

Step 1: Try rebooting your device first

You need to do this very simple and safe procedure first of all especially if it is the first time the error occurred. There is always a possibility that it’s just a result of a minor glitch with the apps and/or firmware, which can easily be addressed by a reboot.

If the problem can’t be fixed by a simple reboot, try doing the Forced Reboot by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 to 15 seconds. it’s a safe procedure but as the title implies, it will force reboot your phone by simulating the battery disconnect procedure.

Step 2: Clear the cache and data or the Gallery app

Clearing the cache and data of the Gallery app will reset it to its default settings but don’t worry as none of your pictures and videos will be deleted. It only manages your media contents but they’re stored in a directory that won’t be affected when it’s reset. Try the steps below to see if the procedure can fix the problem:

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Gallery.
  6. Tap Clear cache.
  7. Tap Clear data button, then OK.

Step 3: Boot your phone in safe mode

After clearing the cache and data and the problem still persists, then try to find out if other apps have something to do with it. But while doing so, you also have to isolate if the apps belong to the pre-installed ones or third-party. Therefore, you need to boot your phone in safe mode for it:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  2. Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  3. Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  4. You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

If the error won’t pop up in safe mode, then you need to look for the culprit in your list of third-party apps. Begin your search from those that can access the Gallery from inside their interface.

However, if the problem still persists even in safe mode, then we can say that the problem might be in the firmware. So, the next step will be for the firmware-related concerns.

Step 4: Wipe cache partition

Wiping the cache partition will delete all the caches the system created. These files can easily get corrupted during updates or when the phone keeps shutting down unexpectedly. Deleting all of them will force the phone to create new ones and that might just fix the issue. So, follow the steps below to wipe the cache partition:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Step 5: Master Reset your phone

This is your last resort and it must come at the end because it’s a hassle to backup all your files and data. When doing the master reset, all the data and files stored in your phone’s internal storage will be deleted that’s why don’t follow the steps below until you’re 100% sure you have every important file backed up.

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
