S5 Ads Appearing On Screen

Problem: About every day, I turn the phone off. One day, when the phone came on there were changes. My lockscreen and wallpaper changed. The battery percentage disappeared from the taskbar. In addition, ads are appearing on the lock screen.. My ring tone changed. It is quite difficult to answer the phone, requiring several swipes. The lock screen comes on frequently, even in the midst of typing. I was able to change the wallpaper, but when I tried to change the lock screen, it wouldn’t. The current screen is a strange one not in my phone’s menu. I got the battery percentage back. My old ring tone came from the stock menu on the phone. It was gone from the menu, but I changed to a new ringtones from an app. I uninstalled recent apps in case the evil lock screen was from them. I then started uninstalling older apps in case it came with an update. I’m running out of apps to install. Then there are the untouchable apps. They get updates too. Now. I’m starting to have the screen overlay problem talked about on your forum. I can’t access my photo gallery or use clean master. You said it was a bug in the software, but why should it suddenly start at the same time the evil lock screen hijacked my phone. I have many photos as well as memo data I don’t want to lose. I didn’t know if a factory reset would affect those, so I haven’t done it. I don’t know how to do one anyway. PS I have no idea what android version I have. I clicked at random.. My phone was purchased in Dec 2014.

Solution: The best way to deal with this particular issue is to start your phone fresh. To do this you need to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any app in your phone first. Try to check first if you still experience any of the issues. It’s very likely that the phone will work normally this time. I suggest that when you install new apps to your phone make sure to get them from the Google Play Store.

S5 Can’t Access Yahoo Mail Using Stock Email App

Problem: Yahoo mail now offers enhanced security for email accounts.  Among other features, this enhanced security rejects login attempts from apps that it does not recognize as secure.  We accepted this enhanced security, and found that it rejects login attempts from the samsung “email” app on our galaxy s5.  We can still receive yahoo mail using yahoo’s own android app, but we prefer the samsung app.  Is samsung’s email app insecure, or is yahoo overzealous in its rejection?

Solution: The Yahoo email account should be setup properly on the stock email app of your phone in order for it to work .Yahoo suggests that the IMAP settings is the best way to connect your Yahoo mail to your mobile email app.

The settings are as follows.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

  • Server – imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port – 993
  • Requires SSL – Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

  • Server – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port – 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL – Yes
  • Requires authentication – Yes

Your login information

  • Email address – Your full email address ([email protected])
  • Password – Your account’s password
  • Requires authentication – Yes

S5 Uber Driver App Not Working

Problem: Uber driver app will not work. My phone keeps giving me the message unfortunately, Uber Driver has stopped. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, soft reset, reset, took it to an AT&T representative who changed the sim card to see if that helped, I’ve cleared the cache so I’m out of answers. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do besides getting another phone.

Solution: The S5 is one of the compatible phone models capable of working with the Uber app. Since you are having a problem with it then you should try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Make sure your phone software is updated to the latest Marshmallow version.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Once the reset is complete install only the Uber app then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem still persist then the app might not be recognizing your phone as a compatible device. You should try to contact the technical support team of Uber regarding this matter.

S5 Air Gestures Not Working On Music App

Problem: Samsung s5. My Air Gestures for controlling the default music player have stopped working. I’ve gone back into the settings and made sure they’re enabled (and soft reset when that didn’t work). It’s been a few weeks since I lost that functionality, which I really enjoyed. Around the same time I noticed the change, the Music app icon disappeared from my home screen and when I re-added it the icon looked different and the lockscreen music controls similarly changed, which tells me there was an update. I actually very much enjoy the update except for the loss of air gestures to browse through the music. 16.1.63-9 is the current version of my music player.

Solution:  If the air browse setting is already turned on in your phone and it doesn’t work for the music app try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will erase the temporary system data which could be causing this problem.
  • Clear the cache and data of the music app.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then this could be a sensor related problem. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Permissions Not Working

Problem: Hi my mum has an s5 and her permissions aren’t working. I saw on your website that it has happened previously. I updated the phone and it still doesn’t work. Gallery doesn’t open and WhatsApp doesn’t pick up her contacts. Please could you tell me if there is anything else I could do?

Solution: For this particular issue I would recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This restores the phone to its original condition and will most likely fix this issue.
