Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Stuck In Startup Screen After Marshmallow Update Issue & Other Software Problems

While this model is already a year old it still packs some serious hardware power that can easily outperform the recent smartphone releases. A lot of people have been using this device as their daily driver without any major problems. There are however instances when certain issues can occur on this phone which we will be discussing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy Note 5 stuck in startup screen after Marshmallow update issue & other related problems.

Note 5 Stuck In Startup Screen

Problem: hello sir, i have samsung galaxy and i updated it today to marshmallow..after all the installation completed and when it restarted it got stuck on startup screen and it never proceeds from there. i did reset the phone and did hard reset but again it get stuck on the startup screen. please help me what to do and how to fix it

Solution: If a hard reset fails to fix this problem then it’s very likely that the update has been corrupted. The best thing you can do right now is to manually flash the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 5 No New Software Updates

Problem: My phone is telling me my software is up-to-date every time I go to system update there’s been at least 4 or 5 updates that have come out since February that have not gone to my phone and I cannot figure out how to get theses updates. The Marshmallow update has not even come up.

Solution: There are certain conditions that have to be met by your phone in order for it to be able to get the official updates. If your phone came from a particular network then the device should be running on that network in order to gain access to the update servers. Example, if your phone is an unlocked AT&T device and you are now using it on Straight Talk then you should insert an AT&T SIM card to your phone to get the update. Your phone should also not be rooted and should not be running on any custom software for it to be able to get the update.

If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it still can’t get updated then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Try to update your phone using the Over The Air method
  • Try to update your phone using Kies or Smart Switch

If the above steps fail then you should consider flashing the updated firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 5 Not Starting After Software Update

Problem: Hello! After new update today.  Phone could never power back up and keeps looping with the fallen android and caution on top him  screen. The only way to shut it off,is through the manual steps of Power Button + Volume down button, until I get screen to shut it off.  I’m afraid to reset because of some data loss.  Do you have any other fixes. Your assistance will greatly appreciated.

Solution: Have you tried connecting your phone to its charger then check if it turns on? If it still doesn’t turn on then try starting your phone in Safe Mode. If you are able to access this mode then I suggest you immediately backup your phone data. Once you have a backup copy of your phone data restart your phone. If it still loops then you need to start your phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here.

Note 5 Network Lock After Factory Reset

Problem: Hi, I recently reset my phone after doing a backup after which is started informing me my simcard was “network locked” and that I must insert a correct one. Please any help. Before all this my sim card worked perfectly as I had already purchased this phone network unlocked.

Solution: Generally, once a phone is unlocked it will stay this way even if a factory reset is performed. What you need to do first in this case is to check if the phone has been network locked. To do this dial *#7465625# on your phone keypad. A menu will appear that will show Network lock, Subset  lock, SP lock. If all lock settings are off then your phone is unlocked and the issue might be caused by other factors. If this is the case I suggest you try out the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try using a different SIM card ( of the same network).
  • Try cleaning the SIM card slot by using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt present which could potentially cause this problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do another round of factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

If after dialing *#7465625# you get a On setting then here is what it means

  • Network lock is on : Your phone is network locked
  • Subset lock is on: Your phone needs a provider unlock code
  • SP lock is on:  Your phone needs a service provider unlock code

For any of the cases above you will need to have your phone unlocked again.

Note 5 Not Responding

Problem: I have an android note 5 that will not let me select any numbers, or the dictionary options or ok, when opting to delete any app or even try to back up. I was trying to do a hard restart but without being able to hit ok to back up I am stuck. I hit one app and it opens another. I have to hit the power button to open the screen again and sometimes the correct app will open up and other times it won’t. I have to shut it off and then hopefully. I also text and it chooses another letter. please help

Solution: Try doing a hard reset from the recovery mode. Take note that you will need to backup your phone data before doing this. If after the reset the problem still occurs then it’s very likely that the digitizer of your device has been damaged. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

Note 5 Unlock A Locked Phone

Problem: My ex bought a brand new note 5 and left me with it to pay the bill when he broke up with me. He will not give me the email to unlock the phone. He refuses to unlock it when that’s all I need to use this brand new phone. Is there anyway I can unlock the phone without him and his email?

Solution: You can start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset in this mode. This will erase everything in the device and when you start it you will have to set it up again.

To boot the device in recovery mode follow the steps listed below.

  • Power Off the Galaxy Note 5
  • Wait for a couple of seconds then press and hold power, volume up and home buttons at the same time.
  • Keep pressing these keys until the recovery mode menu is being displayed.
  • Use Volume Up and Down buttons to scroll up and down and Power key to select your option.
  • Scroll to factory reset then tap on the power key
  • Restart your device after the reset is complete
