Note 4 Does Not Have Sound

Problem: My Samsung Note 4 does not have sound. I can call out and hear the other person and speak to them, but no sound for notification, no call sound, nothing. I am trying to see if it is the loudspeaker that was damaged? Please help!! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to check the sound setting of your phone. Make sure that the silent mode is not activated. You should also make sure that the sound volume is set to its maximum level by going to Settings – Sound. Make sure that the slider is to its maximum level for the ringtone, music, notifications, system.

If the sound settings are in order but the issue still persists then try checking if an app you installed in your phone is causing the problem. To do this you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the sound works in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then the next step is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original condition.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by a defective speaker. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

Note 4 Sound Not Working On Videos

Problem: The sound in my gallery doesn’t work, when I play the videos I’ve recorded. And i have the volume on high but there’s no sound. On my snapchat the sound works fine and I am able to hear the videos posted, but when I play a video that I posted the sound doesn’t work.

Solution: Does this issue occur for all of the videos you have recorded? Try clearing the cache and data of the camera app as well as the gallery app as this issue might be caused by some form of corrupt temporary data in these apps. Once this is done try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Record a video then check if you can hear its sound when you playback the video. If the issue doesn’t occur then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will erase the temporary system data which could be causing the problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 No Sound From Earpiece

Problem: I have a note 4 and yesterday my phone earpiece started being so quiet that I didn’t know the phone call I was trying to make actually went out. So I ended the call and tried it again with same results. Then I listened real close and could barely hear the person on the other line. I thought it was their phone causing the problem, so I called someone else and had the same issue. I restarted my phone, didn’t help, pulled the battery out, didn’t help, left it off all night last night, didn’t help. After I pulled the battery out just after it started, it worked correctly for a minute, then went back to being muted in my earpiece.

Solution: Try to check first if the phone software is causing this problem by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. When the phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the problem doesn’t occur then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of our phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then try to check if the earpiece is covered by dirt or debris. This can muffle the sounds making it difficult for you to hear the person on the other end when on a call. Clean the earpiece hole if necessary.

If the issue still persists at this point then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Does Not Go On Silent Mode

Problem: Hi crew! I have a Galaxy Note 4 and whenever I set the ringtone to “silent” volume and “vibrate”, shortly after, my phone will sound off with a LOUD notification, as if I *never* had it on silent or vibrate. When I check the volume, it still says its on silent/vibrate. :/ VERY annoying at work when I can’t have my phone on, or when I’m trying to sleep. On the nav bar, the symbol indicating silent/vibrate is gone. I’ve done a soft reset and I’ve gone through all my apps to see if any could be tripping it up. No solution so far. PLEASE HELP.

Solution: This might be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try to check first if a third party app is causing this issue by starting your phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Sound Is Gone

Problem: After connecting External pc speaker to my Note 4 Jack all the sounds are gone the headphone the speakers the calling speakers all are producing very very low and crackling like burst sound…I showed the device on hops they are saying i have to change the whole Board which is very expensive and some of my friends are suggesting that it might be Sound Ic that i need to change so what i need to do?

Solution: Sometimes this problem can be caused by a shorted audio jack. This happens when dirt or debris is present in the jack. Try cleaning this jack with a can of compressed air or toothpick. If this doesn’t work then the next step is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still occurs even after the reset then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s difficult to pinpoint right now the  specific hardware component that’s causing this issue that’s why it’s best to have a technician check your phone.

Note 4 Sound Not Working After Phone Got Dropped

Problem: I dropped my phone earlier this week and do not have audio playback since. I have a voice recorded and when I play it back it has the sound waves showing as though it is playing but there is no sound, Everything recorded prior to this week does play back with no problem.

Solution: If this issue occured right after you dropped your phone then this could already be a hardware problem possibly caused by a damaged speaker or sound controler. You should however try to perform the following steps listed below.

  • Try to check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
