1More MK802 Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones with Microphone and Remote Review

1More, a Chinese company that’s becoming increasingly more known in the west, has made a great reputation for itself with 1More Triple Driver In-Ear headphones, which scored rave reviews. The company is now expanding their headphone lineup with 1MORE iBFree and 1MORE Piston in-ear headphones, and MK802 Bluetooth over-ear headphones, which we are going to take a closer look at in this article.

Build and Design

With their circumaural (over-the-ear) design, the MK802 Bluetooth headphones with snugly and comfortably on the ears, putting the ample padding and soft headband to a good use. A comfortable fit like this can make you forget that you are wearing the headphones in the first place, allowing you to focus entirely on your music without dealing with sore ears. The size of the headphones can be adjusted to fit anyone from small kids to Stewie from Family Guy.

You can get the MK802 Bluetooth headphones in either blue or red version. Both versions have a nice metallic finish that makes the TR-90 synthetic titanium, which is used for the headband and ear cup housings, stand out and look luxurious. Also, a property of the TR-90 synthetic titanium is its excellent flexibility. You can twist and turn the headband in all directions, and it will always revert to the original shape.

Placed on the right earcup are controls for power, volume, and playback/call management. The volume control buttons don’t actually change the volume level on your smartphone, instead, they independently adjust the volume of the headphones. That wouldn’t be an issue, if they also were not used to skip tracks. Before you get used to how it works, expect to accidentally skip a track or two. 1MORE isn’t the only manufacturer who does this, so people who already own a pair of headphones that function in the same way shouldn’t be as frustrated as we were.

A special feature is a switch that controls the overall bass response. It’s located on the left earcup and has three modes, covering a wide range of listening preferences. Included in the box is a microUSB cable for charging and detachable audio cable with an inline three-button remote, allowing you to switch to wired listening at any time.

In the wireless mode, the battery life of the MK802 Bluetooth headphones is roughly 15 hours of music playback, but it depends greatly on how loud you like your music. One thing you should keep in mind is that the headphones don’t automatically switch off after a period of inactivity.

Owners of Android smartphones and tablets can install the 1More Assistant app from the Play Store. The app includes one key to burn-in headset, quick connection for Bluetooth headset, 1MORE magic button to launch 3rd party app, and smart EQ and music player. It could use some polishing, but given its price of zero dollars, we can’t really complain.

Sound Quality

The MK802 Bluetooth headphones sport the latest Bluetooth 4.1 technology with aptX coding, which is a family of proprietary audio codec compression algorithms currently owned by Qualcomm. aptX provides vastly enhances compression rations, allowing you to experience your music wirelessly as if you were listening through a wired connection.

In addition to the Bluetooth 4.1 and aptX, the MK802 Bluetooth headphones feature large beryllium drivers capable of massive bass response and sparkly highs. With the bass adjust feature, you can fine-tune the sound to suit your preferences, going from a modest bass response all the way to “I think my head will explode.”

The only caveat is that the maximum volume decreases noticeably when you switch to the wired listening mode. It’s not like you won’t be able to hear the music, but prepare to turn up the volume to the max.

What’s in the Box

The headphones ship with a microUSB cable, detachable audio cable, and drawstring protective pouch. The pouch doesn’t offer nearly as a good level of protection as you get from a proper hard-shell case, but it’s certainly better than nothing at all.

Pros

  • Good audio performance
  • Adjustable bass
  • Option for wired listening
  • Comfortable and well built

Cons

  • Awkward control pad

Verdict

Considering the cost of the 1More MK802 headphones, we have to say that the company has managed to come up with a very compelling product that blends unique functionality, such as the adjustable bass response, with vibrant audio quality and remarkable comfort for long-term listening. The ability to switch from wireless to wired listening is also something that comes in handy from time to time.
