How to use and manage Lock Screen and Security Settings on Samsung Galaxy Note 7 [Tutorials]

The new #Samsung Galaxy Note flagship device is schemed with a number of more advanced lock screen and security features used to prevent any unauthorized access thereby keeping sensitive information in the phone secured.

The Galaxy Note 7 lock screen settings allow you to set your preferred method for unlocking your phone as well as customize lock screen options. It’s also where you can set to determine whether to show tips for unlocking the phone and enter your owner information to be shown on the lock screen.

Read on to learn how to increase your phone’s security by setting up a screen lock pattern, PIN, password lock, fingerprints, and iris scanner using the Note 7 lock screen and security settings menu. Using the highest security level available such as password, fingerprint, or iris lock is recommended to protect your phone and data from unauthorized access. How to access screen lock settings on your Galaxy Note 7

Follow these steps to access your phone’s screen lock settings and configure security menu options according to your preferences:

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Lock screen and security. The lock screen and security menu will then show up.
  3. Tap Screen lock type.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to finish screen lock setup.

Setting up a screen lock on your Galaxy Note 7

Follow these steps to set up a screen lock such as Pattern, PIN, and Password locks to provide better protection with the screen lock type menu.

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Lock screen and security.
  4. Tap Screen lock type to continue.

Note: If you’ve already set up a different type of lock before, then you may be required to enter your credentials to proceed.

  1. To continue with this guide, tap Pattern.
  2. When prompted with the Set Pattern screen, create a screen lock pattern you want by connecting at least four dots in vertical, horizontal, or diagonal directions. Once you’re done with your pattern, lift your finger and then tap Continue.
  3. Draw the same pattern again and then tap Confirm.
  4. On the Notifications on lock screen menu, specify or select how much notification information you want to show on the lock screen. If you want to have all notifications show on the lock screen, just leave the sliders at their default settings.
  5. To continue with the guide, tap Done.

Note: This setting can be modified or changed at any time by simply going to Apps-> Settings-> Lock screen and security-> Notifications on lock screen.

  1. If you wish to add extra security to your phone, then you can add your fingerprints or irises. To do so, tap the slider next to the feature you want to use and then tap Set Up to continue with adding of your fingerprints or irises.
  2. To proceed with this guide, tap Later. This option will let you skip the fingerprints or irises set up process and do it at a later time you want.

Enabling Fingerprints Lock on your Galaxy Note 7

The Galaxy Note 7 fingerprint recognition system utilizes the unique characteristics of each fingerprint to enhance the security of the phone. A fingerprint lock offers an increased security for your mobile device. When the fingerprint lock is activated, you will be required to place the pad of your finger on the Home key in order to access your device. Here’s how it works:

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Lock screen and security.
  4. Scroll to and tap to select Fingerprints from the lock screen menu options available.
  5. You will be asked to choose a backup screen lock method such as Pattern, PIN, or Password. Tap to select PIN to proceed with this guide.
  6. Enter your backup PIN and then tap Continue.
  7. Re-enter the same backup PIN and then tap OK to confirm.
  8. Now, place the entire pad of your finger on the Home key then lift it off again. To ensure it is properly recognized, place it from base to tip. Repeat this step until your progress reaches a hundred per cent.

Note: Move your finger slightly each time you touch the Home key, and fully covering the key with your finger. Doing so will ensure you whole fingerprint is recorded.

  1. Specify how much notification information you want to show on the lock screen. Again, just leave the sliders at their default settings if you want to have all notifications show on the lock screen.
  2. Tap Done to proceed. The Fingerprints lock is now activated on your device.
  3. Now try to lock the screen by pressing the Power/Lock key once and then press it again to show the lock screen.
  4. To test whether your fingerprint lock works, place your registered finger on the Home key to unlock your phone.

Important Note: You only have a maximum of five attempts to unlock your device using the registered fingerprint before you will be asked to enter your backup screen lock.

Adding More Fingerprints on your Galaxy Note 7

You are allowed to register more than one fingerprint on your device. It is recommended to add different fingerprints than the one registered while turning for greater accuracy while turning on Fingerprints lock. Your phone allows you to store up to four registered fingerprints at a time. Here’s how to add more fingerprints:

  1. Tap Apps from Home.
  2. Next, tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Lock screen and security.
  4. Tap Fingerprints.
  5. Enter the PIN code, Pattern, or Password associated with your previously registered fingerprint.
  • To proceed with this guide, enter your PIN code then tap Next.
  1. On the next screen, tap Add fingerprint.
  2. Now place the entire pad of your finger from base to tip on the Home key. Repeat the process until the progress shows 100 per cent.

Follow the same steps when adding another fingerprint. To test whether the new fingerprints are working, you can tap any registered finger to the Home key to access your phone.

Enabling Iris Lock on your Galaxy Note 7

The Galaxy Note 7 also comes with Iris Verification feature that can be used for other accounts accessed from your device. You can configure any of the Iris Verification options from the Lock screen and security menu-> Irises. Among the options would include but not limited to Remove, My irises, and Iris unlock. With these options you can delete or manage existing irises.

Iris recognition can also be used as an alternative to entering passwords in certain applications, or verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account.

The Note 7 comes with another type of security feature called the Iris Lock. It adds another layer of security to your phone by creating an iris lock. All you have to do is enable the Iris Lock feature on your device and then you can already unlock your device by just looking at it. Here’s how to use this security feature:

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap Lock screen and security.
  4. Scroll to and tap to select Irises from the given options.
  5. Just like with the fingerprints lock, you will be required to set a backup pattern, PIN, or password. Tap to select an unlock method you want to use as backup and then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
  • To continue with this guide, tap to select PIN as backup method.
  1. Enter a backup PIN consisting of 4-16 digits and then tap Continue when done.
  2. Re-enter the same PIN code to confirm and tap OK.
  3. If prompted with the Disclaimer screen, read the details and then tap OK to proceed.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. On the next screen, you will be prompted to hold your device level with your eyes with the screen facing toward you. Align your eyes with the circles shown on the phone screen to scan your irises.

Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the iris scanning process.

Note: For best results, it is recommended to perform the setup process indoors and remove your glasses or contact lenses.

After the iris scanning is complete, try to lock and unlock your phone using the following steps:

  • Press the Power/Lock key to lock your phone screen.
  • While the screen is turned off, press the Power/Lock key again.
  • Swipe the screen in any direction.
  • Now hold your device level with your eyes with the screen facing toward you. Align your eyes with the circles shown on the screen, and your phone screen should unlock once the iris scanning is complete.
