S5 Mobile Data Not Working After Software Update

Problem: My phone has been asking me to do an update for a while now, but my phone didn’t have enough space to do it so I just ignored the message. Three days ago (~ish), my phone updated itself. Since then, my mobile data does not work. I can connect to wi-fi but not mobile data. My mobile data is on and I have turned it off and on. I also have never been able to use the LTE services despite my phone being able to.  My phone carrier is Straight talk, but it uses AT&T network I believe.

Solution: There’s a possibility that the phone’s APN setting might have changed during the update process. Go to your phone’s APN setting (Settings – More networks – Mobile networks – Access Point Names) then check if it is correct. For Straight Talk the setting is listed below.

  • APN Name: ATT 4G LTE
  • APN: tfdata
  • Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • Port: 80
  • Username:
  • Password:
  • Server:
  • MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • MMS Port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Authentication Type: PAP
  • APN Type: default,mms,supl,hipri
  • APN Protocol: IPv4
  • APN Roaming Protocol:
  • Bearer:
  • MVNO Type:

S5 Mobile Network Connection Not Working After Marshmallow Upgrade

Problem: I too am having mobile network connection problems after installing Android Marshmallow upgrade. Especially when using WAZE. It is almost useless now, but Google Maps gets mobile network most of the time. I have seen you say in many threads to backup data and do a factory reset. Can you explain for us novices how to backup data?

Solution: Just like the issue which we have addressed above the first thing that you need to do is to check the APN setting of your phone as this might have changed during the update process. If the APN setting is correct then you should consider doing a factory reset. Before doing the reset you will need to backup your phone data. The best way to do this is by using Kies. Download and install Kies or Smart Switch to your computer. Make sure that Kies or Smart Switch is running in your computer before connecting your phone using a USB cord to it. Use the software to backup your phone data by going to the Backup/ Restore tab and clicking on software backup.

S5 Only Getting Edge Signal

Problem: I have a Verizon unlocked Samsung S5. Recently switched to T-Mobile prepaid plan. Cannot get anything but Edge speed. Called T-Mobile. They tried everything they could without success. Told me to call Samsung. They told me it’s not a phone issue and I could call T-Mobile. I’m desperate. I’ve tried a soft reset as per your instructions. Still no go. Just EDGE. Any last thoughts before I drop this thing in the pool?

Solution: For this type of issue try checking the network mode setting of your phone first as it might not be set properly. Go to Settings- Mobile Networks- Network Mode. Make sure to check the connection when the network mode is set to LTE/CDMA and Global. If this is set to GSM/UMTS then you will be getting a slow mobile data connection.

Another possible reason why the phone is only getting an Edge signal is because the APN setting is not properly set.

  • APN Name: T-Mobile
  • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
  • Proxy:
  • Port:
  • Username:
  • Password:
  • Server:
  • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
  • MMS Proxy:
  • MMS Port:
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 260
  • Authentication Type:
  • APN Type: default,supl,mms
  • APN Protocol: IPv6
  • APN Roaming Protocol:
  • Bearer:
  • MVNO Type:

S5 Mobile Data And Wi-Fi Stops Working

Problem: I have a Samsung S5, with Three Ireland network. As of around June/July since a software update, I’ve had issues of connectivity with my data and WiFi on several apps. My phone would be using data on 4g or 3g and apps such as Viber, Facebook, Instagram and occasionally Google would stop connecting after a while. Then I could switch to WiFi, all working fine for a period and then stops. I go back and forth between switching WiFi on/off and hopping on to data networks. I’ve contacted the phone network to make sure settings are correct. Cleared my cache and cookies. Phone is under 2 years and has no other issues bar this. Can you please help?

Solution: Since this issue affects both Wi-Fi and mobile data then I recommend that you perform a factory reset. This is a highly recommended troubleshooting step that needs to be done if issues occur right after a software update. What the reset does is it removes any old software data that has not been completely removed by the update process. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S5 Wi-Fi Bluetooth Not Turning On After Software Update

Problem: Ok so i have a samsung s5 G901F my phone asked if i wanted to update so i agreed. the update was for marshmallow and now it has upgraded my bluetooth will not turn one and neither will my wifi. i have done a factory reset. I have done a soft reset, i have cleared cache on bluetooth and wifi, i simply can’t get the bluetooth and wifi to work

Solution: Since the factory reset fails to fix the issue then there’s a possibility that the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip has been damaged. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center that performs board level repairs.
