Samsung Galaxy S5 Gallery Keeps Crashing Issue & Other App Related Problems

S5 Gallery Keeps Crashing

Problem: Out of nowhere, the Gallery keeps crashing. I’ve tried some troubleshooting, but it only works briefly, then starts crashing again. Getting really frustrated, not willing to factory reset, because I will lose a lot of irreplaceable photos & info.

Solution: If the Gallery app keeps on crashing the the first thing you should do is to clear the cache and data of the Gallery app from the Application Manager. What this does is it takes out the temporary data of the app as well as return it back to its default settings.

If the issue still remains then try to check if an app you downloaded is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Try to check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another possible reason why this issue is happening is because of a corrupted microSD card. If your phone has one installed and this is the default storage location of your photos then you should try removing the card and see if the problem gets resolved.

One last troubleshooting step to consider should the above steps fail is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

S5 Turn Off Calendar Talking Notifications

Problem: After Marshmallow update, my calendar will verbally speak any appointment/reminders I have entered into it. Muting the media volume and the system volume does not stop the phone from reading my reminders out loud. If the phone volume and notification volume are muted then the calendar is quiet. Anyone know how to silence the calendar without muting the entire phone?

Solution: You might have activated the Car Mode/ Driving Mode of your phone which is why you are getting voice notifications. Try turning this off by going to Settings> Voice input and output> Text to speech settings> Untick “Driving Mode”.

S5 High Pitched Beep When Making Calls

Problem: Dear Droid Guy, First of all I want to thank you for making a website that helps the average android user to find solutions for common problems using the Android phone.   The problem with my phone which just occurred today is that the phone will start a high-pitched beep noise when I attempt to make calls.  It started suddenly when I tried to make a call and have prevented me from making any outbound calls.  I have read your post on simple fixes for hardware and software related issues and have adapted the restart solution to this problem.  The beeping noise have gone and I am able to make calls normally.  However I’d like to know then how to isolate the app that is responsible for this issue?? Are there hints, signs to look for?? Are there processes I could go through to isolate the problematic app?? Any suggestion or pointer would be much appreciated. Cheers and keep up the good work!!

Solution: The best way to isolate any third party app that could be causing this issue is to start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates only in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. This means that if the problem doesn’t occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Unfortunately, there is no quick way to find what app this is so you have to do a trial and error method in finding out what it is by uninstalling one app at a time then checking if the problem still occurs.

Regarding the beeping issue there are several reasons why it occurred. It could sometimes be caused by a glitch in the phone software and can simply be fixed by restarting the phone. Sometimes a factory reset is needed to fix the issue however you should first make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

External factors can also cause the high pitched beep such as when another device is causing an interference with your phone. For this you should try moving to a different location.

S5 Check Internet Connection Error

Problem: Facebook and messenger apps both say check internet connection and won’t connect. Internet is fine and i can login from browser but not from app. I have deleted apps, restarted phone, reinstalled, clear cache, changed password but still not working. Please help.

Solution: Does your phone have any security software installed? It might be blocking the Facebook app from connecting to the Internet. Try to disable any security software that the phone has then check if the issue still occurs.

To eliminate any network related issues try connecting your phone to a different Wi-Fi network or use your mobile data subscription.

If the issue still remains then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Transfering Files From microSD Card To Kobo App

Problem: Unable to transfer files from SD card to the kobo app.  Use the app instructions but after a brief search the phone tells me that no files were found on the SD card.  Have un and reinstalled kobo, among other things, but nothing has worked. Suspect it may be related to the tap here to see SD card.

Solution: Have you tried using a different microSD card on your phone? If not then try using a different card then check if the issue still occurs. Also, make sure that the file format that you are trying to import to the KObo app is compatible with the app.

The file formats are as follows:

  • Books: EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, and MOBI
  • Documents: PDF
  • Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, and TIFF
  • Text: TXT, HTML, and RTF
  • Comic Books: CBZ and CBR

Take note that files with DRM protection might not be opened by the app.

Copy the compatible file formats to your microSD card. With the Kobo app running insert the microSD card to your phone.

  • From your Library shelf, tap the  Menu button on your Kobo Vox.
  • Tap Import Content.
  • Tap Start.
  • Select the checkbox beside the book you want to import.
  • Tap Import Selected.
  • You can either import the file and keep a copy on the microSD card or keep the file and delete the copy on the microSD card.

S5 Kids Mode Crashes After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Since the Marshmallow update, Kids Mode won’t operate on my phone or my wife’s phone. We have the same phone. After the update it opened once and asked that we update Kids Mode. We did and now it crashes and force stops every time we try to open it.

Solution: There’s a possibility that this issue is caused by some form of old software data that was not removed during the update process. To fix this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Music Video Pauses Randomly After Marshmallow Update

Problem: When I listen to Pandora or watch Youtube videos, it will pause randomly and I have to hit play button again to get it started. It all happened after update to Android ver. 6.0.1. I have a Samsung sm-g9001. Not sure if other apps are affected. Please help. Thanks.

Solution: Try checking if the power saving mode is turned on ( turn it off if it is on) or if the Wi-Fi is set to turn off when the phone sleeps ( make sure to set the Wi-Fi to turn on even when the phone sleeps).

If the phone settings are correct then the next thing you should do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will effectively take out any old software data that got left behind during the update process and is most likely causing this issue.
