Note 4 Is Slow After Marshmallow Update
Problem: I have a galaxy note 4 and ever since my update to marshmallow I get problems where my email won’t open right away, I checked a text message and Facebook message and it won’t clear the icons of how many I got for a long time. Meaning it says I have 7 text messages and I check them and go back to the main screen and the number is still there like it sticks around for a while, also its slower and if I shut it down and start it back up, there is a process not responding error in a box saying wait or stop. I admit I shut my phone off at work because it kills my battery sitting in a locker but I never had problems like this before the update
Solution: It looks like some old software data that got left behind during the update process is causing this issue. To fix this problem you need to try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode first. This deletes the temporary system data of the device. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the next thing you should do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. The reset erases the phone and brings it back to its default settings.
Note 4 Will Not Update To Android Marshmallow
Problem: Hi, I recently purchased a new, factory unlocked note 4 from Best Buy. I can use mobile data and make calls but it won’t update android to marshmallow. I received the prompt to update and postponed for 1 hour. But now there’s a notification in settings but it hasn’t prompted for the update in over 24 hours. If I click on software update in “about this device” nothing happens. I also tried closing software update in task killer and soft resetting the device; I still have the software update notification but I can’t get the update to start. Thank you for your help
Solution: Since the phone has an update notification then it’s good to know that your phone meets the requirements to get this update. The only problem right now is that it isn’t downloading the update. You can try connecting your phone to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running then update your phone using the software. If the phone still doesn’t update then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete check for the update using the OTA method or by using Kies/ Smart Switch.
Note 4 Not Booting Up After Software Update
Problem: my phone was updated this morning and now it will not boot up. the opening sprint logo comes on and then phone turns off except for blue light in upper left corner. sprint store tried soft boot and nothing happened. it was working fine before update. thanks for advice.
Solution: It looks like a glitch in the update process caused this issue. Try taking out the battery and the microSD card ( if one is installed) first then press the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then try to turn on the phone. If it still does not boot up then you should try to start the phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data.
If the issue still remains after performing the steps listed above then you might want to consider flashing the phone with its updated stock firmware. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
Note 4 Rebooting And Freezing
Problem: I have a Galaxy note 4 and have loved it. Over the last week I have encountered a few issues. The first is manually rebooting out of nowhere and the other is the phone freezes when im using it causing me to have to remove the battery and reset it that way. I am lost and need help, all T Mobile says is I have to buy a new phone of course. Are there steps I can’t take that I haven’t already? I have done a soft reboot numerous time, factory reset the phone and today I read and tried clearing the cache? please help
Solution: Since you have already performed most of the required troubleshooting steps on the software side of your phone then it’s time to check the hardware side.
Try connecting your phone to its wall charger then check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then the problem might be power related possibly caused by a faulty battery. Try replacing this battery with a new one.
Another possible factor that can cause this issue is a corrupted microSD card. If your phone has one installed then try removing it.
If the above steps fail to fix the issue then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware file. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
Note 4 Randomly Turns Off
Problem: My phone randomly turns off, even when it is fully charged. When l turn it back on it pretty much asks me to give detail of my name and account stuff, for when you master restart it or start up a new phone. All my apps and files are still there. Recently l am getting error messages/not working messages, for Google Play. And all of my apps, except when l enter the app, nothing is wrong. Plus l don’t get these messages when l go online.
Solution: For this type of issue I recommend that you do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.
Note 4 Updated To Marshmallow But Still Using Lollipop Settings
Problem: After a seemingly successful marshmallow upgrade I find that the all new settings view haven’t changed….still look like old lollipop settings. So I don’t have the features of marshmallow although system shows proper marshmallow version now. How can I force the marshmallow upgrade again?
Solution: If the system shows that the phone software version is already running on Marshmallow then it’s very likely that the phone is already running on Marshmallow. Try to check the App Drawer of your phone. If it now scrolls vertically then it is now running on Marshmallow. If it still scrolls vertically then try to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Check the App Drawer again as well as the software version that your phone is using. If there still is no change then you should consider manually flashing the updated firmware version to your phone. You can check the various popular Android forums online for the procedure on how to do this.
