Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Messaging App Lags Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #Note4 is one of the best phones to use for text messaging. It’s large 5.7 inch screen means that the keyboard isn’t going to be cramped making it easier to type. Reading the text messages is also easier since the large screen means that you can scale the font to a larger size or view a larger part of the message thread. There are however instances when certain messaging issues can occur on this device. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Note 4 messaging app lags issue & other related problems.

Note 4 Messaging App Lags

Problem: Wow, since the update, my note 4 is terribly slow, for everything but especially texts, and I try to delete texts to clear memory and the text app just stops working and sometimes the phone restarts. I can’t even delete texts! Otherwise, it takes so much time to go from one text to the other, and that is what I use it mostly for work. I have no idea what to do, the soft reset did not help. Everything is slow, it’s ridiculous!

Related Problem: Ever since updating to 6.0.1 my Note 4’s default messaging app is incredibly slow. Not only does it take almost 2 minutes for the app itself to load, but it takes about the same time for my keyboard to pop up to type and also to make my keyboard go away. I’ve performed a soft reset and the issue has not been resolved.

Related Problem: Note 4, AT&T upgrade to Marshmallow. Seems all is working except slow on texting, also getting alarm indicator on the status bar that stays on for 30 seconds when sending a text or ending a call. Also batt seems to be draining a little faster. Thank you!

Related Problem: Once I downloaded the marshmallow update for my At&t Samsung note 4, I experience huge lag time and freezes mainly when I try to text message my contacts. Usually when I type a few words the screen freezes up and then types the same word three times in a row. Also my sending and receiving text messages has considerably taken a drastic slowing down. So far I tried deleting all of my old text messages. Deleted my call log. I did a soft reset. I moved a lot of apps and such to my SD card. Do you have any solutions for this? I thank you in advanced!

Related Problem: After the most recent update my text message app has been freezing/lagging. I’ve restarted the phone and closed all apps manually and the issue still occurs.

Related Problem: I have a galaxy note 4. Through att. My messaging is very very slow and there is a continuously spinning circle like icon in the left corner that keeps telling me that my messaging is backing up. I have tried turning off my device and also removing battery. Please help me figure this out

Solution: There are instances when the text messaging app lags or slows down right after an update. This is usually caused by a glitch in the software ( corrupt temporary data, old software data left behind, conflicts in apps). Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that needs to be done for this type of issue. Perform one step then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then move to the next step in the list.

  • Go to the Application Manager then clear the cache and data of the messaging app. This deletes the temporary data stored in the app and resets it to its default settings.
  • Try to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the text messaging app lags. If it doesn’t then an app you downloaded could be causing this problem. Find out what app this is ( usually a trial and error method) and uninstall it.
  • Update all of your phone apps. You can do this from the Google Play Store.
  • Try to remove the microSD card ( if your phone has one installed).
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Received Text Message Number Includes International Code

Problem: I have an issue with replying to text messages. I can send and I can receive. When I receive the number changes to include international access code ( for example +447512 instead of 07512) I have spoken to my network provider and they think it is a hardware issue. I have been to Samsung and they have advised the IMEI number is non eu so they cannot fix it. They believe it is a software glitch but they cannot help because of the non EU problem. Is there anything I can do?

Solution:  There are several things that you can check that could possibly cause this issue. First, the problem could be caused by your SIM card. If you are able to get another SIM card then try to check if the issue still occurs.

You could also check if the issue is caused by a glitch in the text messaging app you are using. For this you will have to clear the cache and data of the app from the application manager.

Try to download a third party text messaging app then use it. If the issue doesn’t occur then the problem could be caused by your phone software. Check if an update is available and update your device accordingly.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step.

Note 4 Group Messages Arrive In Different Threads

Problem: When receiving group messages from a mixed iPhone and Android group, often receive group messages in different threads. Some of the group message users messages show up as items that first need to be downloaded before they are inserted into the group conversation. And, after insertion, messages are shuffled into different threads of a single conversation. I wish I could attach a couple of screenshots to help visualize the problem! I have enabled all of my MMS settings but I cannot find any settings that will assemble group messages into a single conversation. Thoughts or suggestions?

Solution:  For this particular issue make sure first that the phone settings are correct. In particular you should make sure that group messaging is enabled under the MMS settings.

  • Open the Messaging app.
  • Select Menu then  Settings.
  • Under Multimedia message (MMS) settings, check that Group messaging is selected.

You should also make sure that background data is not restricted in your device. Go to Settings – Connections – scroll down to Data Usage > tap the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner then make sure that the Restrict Background Data is not checked.

Since group messaging relies on a data connection make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription and that the data switch of your phone is enabled.

Note 4 Message Not Sent Error

Problem: When I send a text to one specific person I get a message back from that number saying message not sent error 2040.. what does that mean

Solution: Does this issue only occur when trying to send a text message to a particular contact? If it does then try to delete the messaging thread of that contact then delete their name and number in your contact list as well. Restart your phone then add the person back to your contact list. Check if you are now able to send a text message.

If the same error occurs try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app.

You should also check if the issue occurs when your phone is started in Safe Mode. If the problem doesn’t occur in Safe Mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded ( possibly a security app). Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue persists then you should contact your carrier regarding this matter.

Note 4 Message Sending Failed But Is Received Multiple Times

Problem: When trying to send text message. Notification pops up message failed. The people I am sending messages to they are telling me they are receiving the same text message continuously 5 times. I have switched ph off. Drained power. Checked settings. I don’t know what to do .please help.

Solution: This issue usually occurs when the phone is not getting a strong signal from the network. Try going to a different location and check if the issue still occurs. If it does then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue occurs after performing each step then move to the next one if the problem remains.

  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app from the application manager.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the message failed error occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
