S5 Only Charges When Off
Problem: My galaxy s5 does not charge any at all when it is powered on and connected to a charger, no indications are shown. The only way to get a little juice is if the phone is powered off then the charging icon will pop up and continuously jump off over and over again. It does not show charging but when powered on, it has been charged a little and even though it is powered off it takes forever to charge.
Solution: Whenever a phone charges only when it is turned off the first thing that you should do is to check if the charger is causing the problem. If your charger is already defective or if you are using a cheap generic charger then this issue will usually happen. Try using a new charging cord and wall charger then check if the phone will now charge normally. You might also need to clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw to remove any dirt or debris that could be in this port.
In case using a different charger doesn’t work then the next step is to try using a new battery. This allows you to eliminate any battery related issues that could be causing the problem.
If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this is most likely caused by a faulty internal component.
S5 Shuts Down Only Starts When Connected to Charger
Problem: Hello, I am facing an issue with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5 Active) where it shuts down automatically when I keep it in my wallet even if it has good power charging. Then it can not be restarted through Power button. Only when I connect the phone with power cord then only the phone is restarted. I see that previously my phone was 85% charged so no clue why it was switched off earlier. Can you suggest a solution for the same. Appreciate you support.
Solution: The first thing that you should suspect in this case is that the problem is caused by a weakened battery. Try getting a new battery then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the next thing you should do is to check if the problem is software related by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before the reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to observe if the issue still occurs.
If the above steps fail to fix the issue then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this might already be a hardware related problem.
S5 Restarts Randomly Difficult To Turn On
Problem: Dear Droid Guy, I have a S5 SM-G900H. I’m facing very tricky issues that I hope you help me. I’ll try to be very economic in my writing. I bought this phone last year from a friend. I live in Brazil.I discovered now that this specific model (G900H) is a international model, so the authorized here in Brazil said to me that they only give assistance to samsung mobiles produced here as they don’t have parts from international phones. This S5 was working perfectly until my dummy idea to take underwater pictures with my son. It get soaked and stopped to work. I left it in a rice bin for 48 hour and everything was fine again. It worked for months until three weeks ago when started from nothing to restart randomly and it needs some tries to turn on. I already did a factory reset and wiped all cache, but the problem still the same. In fact this reboots just get worse and worse since the first. What I noticed: I can only pass the samsung logo only if I stay holding the power saving mode on I can use it for long periods without problems. After this, I start to think that the problem was the battery, but I tried to change the battery and the problem seems to be the same. At the moment I tried to flash a firmware for it via Odin, but get stucked at samsung logo. (I already did a factory reset and wipe cache). I guess I flashed a wrong firmware… Actually, I didn’t find any firmware for my region (Brazil) g900h… I’m trying to fix this at the moment, but I confess that my options is getting fewer. Please, I will be more than happy if you can help me!! Warm regards
Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to make sure that your phone is running on the correct firmware version. I suggest you get the firmware file from Sammobile. Once you have flashed the correct version then check if the phone starts normally. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a component inside the phone that has been damaged when your phone got wet. The effects of water damage varies and it usually shows immediately or sometimes weeks or months after the phone got wet. To be able to determine what component is failing you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Only Charges When Connected To Power Outlet
Problem: So my phone charges while plugged in an outlet, works great. If i take that same cord and plug it into my car to try to charge the phone it does not work. It says it is charging but it’s not. If i take my daughters phone and plug it in the car with the same cord It works. So i know it’s not the car port or the charger. I’m at a loss here of what it could be.
Solution: Try to check if your phone charges when connected to your computer’s USB port. If it doesn’t then the problem is hardware related possibly caused by a faulty charging port. This port has a separate pin that handles data transfer, high current charging ( from wall charger), and low current charging ( from USB port). The issue might be with the low current charging part.
Before bringing your phone to a service center to have it checked try to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the problem still occurs.
- Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. What you want to achieve is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in the port.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Quick Battery Drain
Problem: Hi Droid Guy. I recently updated my Galaxy S5 and ever since then I’ve been having problems with my phone. The phone overheats and drains my battery even if my phone’s turned off. My WiFi doesn’t work and so does my Bluetooth. I’m very concerned. Is there a way to fix this??
Solution: Since you updated your phone software then chances are there are also new updates available for your phone apps. Try checking if any of your apps have any updates available and update them. Once all your apps are updated try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the problem is most likely caused by old software data that has not been removed and is causing a conflict with the new software version. If this is the case then the recommended troubleshooting step is to do a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S5 Power Sharing Error
Problem: Phone ( samsung galaxy s5 ) is saying i am charging the phone when i am not and when i charged it for the last time without problems it gave me a samsung notification saying that charging would be a problem ? If i did not download an app ( where they gave a link on to press ) i totally forgot the name but it was something like that when phone is 100% it charges another phone
Solution: I think you are getting the power sharing message. If you haven’t downloaded any power sharing app in your phone then what you should do first to resolve this issue is to clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. Nce this is done try using a new charging cord to charge your phone. If the issue remains then try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center as this might be caused by a faulty charging port.
