Note 4 Shuts Down With Charge Left
Problem: I have had an AT&T Note 4 and for a while now, my phone dies at 15-20% doesn’t fast charge, won’t update, and my computer charges the phone but doesn’t recognize it. I have the factory cord and brick. Please help.
Solution: Let’s take a look at the issues separately since they might be caused by different factors. The first thing you need to do in this case is to start your phone fresh by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone just yet. Check first if
- The phone does not die with battery charge left
- The phone will fast charge
- The phone will update
- The phone can be recognized by your computer.
If the phone still turns off with charge left then I recommend you try changing the battery.
As for the issue of the phone not fast charging or being recognized by your computer you can try cleaning the charging port first. Do this by using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. Your aim here is to take out any dirt or debris that could be stuck in the port. You should also try using a different USB cord when charging the phone or connecting it to the computer. If the issue remains then have the phone checked at a service center.
Regarding the phone not updating you should make sure that it isn’t rooted or running on a custom firmware. It’s also best if it is still used on its original carrier. If after the factory reset there is still no update then try connecting the phone to a computer then use Kies or Smart Switch to do the update.
Note 4 Apps Close When Phone Is Charged
Problem: My husband has a Galaxy Note 4. He started having issues 1st with his battery getting to 30% then shutting down saying there is 0 battery. (Which we knew means it’s time for a new battery) At the same time or about the same time the phone started backing out of apps every time he plugged a charger in. He thought at first they were just closing but he was recently in several menus and then plugged the phone in. That’s when he saw each screen going back till he got to his home screen. We have replaced the battery and his battery life is fine now. However if he needs to charge his phone and use maps for example as soon as he plugs in his phone it takes him out of any and all apps. Help!
Solution: Try eliminating any possible software issues that could cause this problem by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could be a hardware related issue. Try using a different charging cord and charger when charging the phone. If the issue remains then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center as its charging port might be grounded.
Note 4 Shuts Off Won’t Turn On After Update
Problem: The phone updated to the most recent OTA update on Thursday. On Monday while I was using it it shut off and won’t turn back on. I have done all the troubleshooting – plug in and leave, hard reset…nothing works. Please help!
Solution: For this type of issue you should first make sure that the battery is charged. Before charging your phone though make sure to clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw. You should also use a different charging cord and wall charger to charge your phone for at least 20 minutes. With the phone still connected to its charger try to turn it on. If it does not turn on then try using a new battery on your device.
If the above steps fail then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center as this might already be a hardware related issue.
Note 4 Not Responding In Sleep Mode
Problem: I’ve been having issues with my Note 4 not responding while in sleep mode,,, Sometimes it takes 2 min to respond/come back on and sometimes i have to take the battery out to soft reset to get it to come back on… But since this problem has occurred when the phone reboots it says “custom”… Then I read that if i take the SD card out it should solve the problem… and it did and i no longer see “custom”… but now is my SD card corrupt?… how do i fix my SD card?… or do I no longer need it?
Solution: If the “custom” error that used to occur disappeared after removing the microSD card then it’s possible that it is causing the problem. You can check if the card is corrupt by having your computer read it. You should also try inserting a new microSD card in your phone. If you still get the “custom” error message with a new microSD card installed then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Constantly Turning Off
Problem: Can you explain this on the galaxy note 4, we have replaced the battery the phone is constantly turning off we have also tried taking the battery out and holding down the power butter for 1 minute then powering the device back up. The device can be not responsive at times and just freezes and when the device switches off we get this on the screen. I can send a picture of the on screen message we get easier than explaining.
Solution: Since you have already tried replacing the battery which doesn’t seem to help the next step that you should do is to check if the phone software is causing this issue. To do this you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset you should immediately check if the issue still occurs. Don’t install anything in your device before the checking is complete. If the issue still occurs then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Display Not Turning On After Getting Wet
Problem: My note 4 has fell in water. Now everything is working fine only i the display isn’t showing anything. Only one time the screen has turned on and everything was fine.. then when i have restart it then dont turned on again… What you think is the problem and how can i fix it. Also i want to make factory reset but i can’t see anything on the screen..HELP!
Solution: Since the Note 4 is not waterproof then the phone getting in contact with water might be causing this issue. You should first make sure that the device is thoroughly dry by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture inside the device. Make sure to remove the battery, SIM, and microSD card when you do this. After 48 hours try to check if the issue still occurs. If the problem still occurs then have your phone checked at a service center.
Note 4 Shuts Off Placed On Top Of Computer
Problem: Ok… here is a strange one. I own a computer shop . . so a little tech savvy… BUT issue still is baffling me. When I put my Note 4 on top of a PC that is plugged in and running it will shut off. Won’t shut off on a tablet, PC that is not running, dropping it, jarring it or anywhere else… just on a running PC. Obviously this is somewhat of an issue … I Have PC’s all around me and tend to set me phone down everywhere… Advice?
Solution:This looks like a grounding issue. Try checking if the issue occurs when the phone is placed on top of a different computer. You should also try placing a mouse pad in between the phone and the computer. If the issue does not occur then it’s possible that the issue is caused by a grounding problem of the computer.
Note 4 Stopped Charging
Problem: My Samsung Galaxy Note 4 just stopped charging today. I did a soft restart and the charger still does not work. I tried using other chargers and none of them work either. Please help me with this problem. Thanks
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone first. Use a can of compressed air or blow into it using a straw. You should also try to use a different charging cord when charging your phone. If the issue still remains then try using a new battery as the one you have right now might already be faulty.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center.
