Note 4 Runs Slow After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Wow….after downloading the update 6.0.1 all hell broke loose. Within 3 days the phone started running slow, freezing.  On day 5 went into “boot loop”.  Wouldn’t even open in Safe Mode. Worked face-to-face with Samsung tech for about 3hrs – couldn’t get to work.  Called Samsung – 1hr with them – nothing.  Finally after exhausting every imaginable “fix” – had to hard set.  Since the hard set – the phone continues to freeze then unfreeze, freeze completely and I have to remove the battery then restart, or it just reboots arbitrarily while doing nothing.  But it doesn’t go into a “boot loop”. Can’t rely on it to work when I need it to.  Sometimes will go a couple hours no issue – other times only 5-10 minutes.  I have Malwarebytes app and Avast (both the paid subscriptions).  Both say “all clear”.Any thoughts or is the phone pretty well S.O.L.

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? You might want to try removing it to check if this is what’s causing the problem. You should also check if the issue occurs when the phone is connected to its charger. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a faulty battery which you should replace with a new one.

One troubleshooting step that you should consider is to flash the previous software version back to your phone to verify if the Marshmallow update is causing this issue. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Multiple Issues After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Finally updated to marshmallow on 7/5, T-mobile phone on Metro service. Was having numerous issues 1. Battery, replaced yesterday, yet fully charged in grayscale it still says I only have 1.5 days use. 2. Wifi & 4g slow or won’t work away from home:at my daughter’s home we were on wifi at Amazon on chrome, lost signal, so turned on data, could not get anything to load as if data wasn’t working, 4g showed at top. Then leaving my daughter turned me on to Google maps, after address was put in it talked and worked till I got on street, then it lost location and sat there dumb. Tried to restart, got nothing, just lost location.and app sat open doing nothing.Internet drags even in wifi, I have comcast. Also my wifi constantly changes between the 3 wifi networks at my home, 2.5, & 5.0 and exterior xfinity. If I delete outside settings when I am away from home I will have to load passcode  to use xfinity hotspots. I was hoping the new battery would solve my fast drain issue, but the phone thinks it’s the old battery from the settings graph, also if I do a firmware reset, I will lose metro settings, being it is a Tmobile phone not unlocked, metro has T Mobile as air carrier. Please help, Thank you

Solution: The best thing to do in this case is a factory reset since it appears that there might still be some old software data left behind in your phone. Before doing the reset make sure to backup your phone data since this will be erased in the process. You should also take note of the APN settings listed below since you need to make sure that your phone is using the correct settings.

  • APN: fast.metropcs.com

Note 4 Not Receiving Or Send Picture Messages After Marshmallow Update

Problem: immediately following the upgrade to marshmallow I stopped being able to receive or send messages containing pictures to iphones. Sending just keeps spinning for a while then sends not sent message receiving comes with a download button that doesn’t do anything. Now a couple of weeks later I am sometimes not able to open messages from iphones just containing text. Also today I tried sending a picture to another samsung android using friend and that won’t go thru.99% of people I know use iphone so if this isn’t fixable I will have to say goodbye to android. Thanks

Solution: If you have an active mobile data subscription and you have turned on your mobile data but you still can’t send or receive a picture message then the problem could be caused by a misconfigured APN setting. Compare the APN setting of your phone to the one your carrier is using and make sure that it matches. Make the necessary changes in your phone if the setting is different.

If the APN setting your phone is using is correct and you still can’t send or receive a picture message then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 No Software Updates Available

Problem: Hello. I bought this Galaxy Note 4 a couple of months ago. All the specs were what I wanted. It came in with kitKat stock. I knew there were software updates available but for some reason my phone won’t do it. I have tried soft and hard resets but no luck. I have more than enough memory. Out of the 32 gb I have 17.53 available. It’s an unlocked device originally from AT&T but I use Metro Pcs. I even got a hold of an AT&T Sim card and reseted it, but that didn’t work either. I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you. Oh also the phone restarts  when I open the camera or use snapchat. Thanks again.

Solution: Try updating your phone software using Kies or Smart Switch. Connect your phone to a computer using a USB cord with the software running then do the update. If your phone still does not update then it’s probably because the update servers are detecting that your device is running on a modified software. You should consider flashing the updated stock software version to your phone if you are unable to get the update. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Keep On Getting Software Update Notification

Problem: I update the software but after going through the entire process, I keep getting an alert that there is a new software update. I’ve updated two and three times in a day and it appears to update, but then it wants to update again.

Related Problem: So I have had this phone for a month or so, and I believe it is refurbished but for the past three days it has been automatically system updating approximately 1 or 2 times a day. I cannot stop this and it I’d very frustrating.  Can you tell me what’s goin on and how I can stop it?

Solution: Try checking the software version of the update. If it is different then you should proceed with downloading it and updating your phone. If it is the same update that you already have then it’s possible that this is caused by a software glitch. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix this problem.

Note 4 Unfortunately Settings Has Stopped After Marshmallow Update

Problem: After marshmallow updated every time I go into settings > Bluetooth and slide the switch to turn on bluetooth, Settings crashes and a message says “Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.” This also happens if bluetooth is switched on and I go into settings > bluetooth. Devices that I have previously connected pair automatically and can work as normal, however I cannot add new devices due to not being able to access the bluetooth menu. Many thanks

Solution: For issues like this the first thing you need to do is to check if the same error occurs even when the phone is started in Safe Mode. When the phone is working in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then the best thing to do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
