i just updated my phone and that went fine at one point during the update it. Showed a screen like you would see if you were programming something like green letters and all. but after the update i wanted to charge my phone my dad had his on so i waited. i got down to 4% and took his phone off the charger and put mine on. i used it for quite a bit and i went to unlock my phone and it didn’t respond at all. home button didn’t do anything and the side power button doesn’t do anything. plugged it in and it did not vibrate saying its plugged in.
i texted myself on my father’s phone and that didn’t even vibrate or anything. i plan to take it in the AT&T store tomorrow unless you respond tonight yet with a solution or fix. — Mitchell
Solution: Hi Mitchell. We hope this response reach you in time. This type of issue can sometimes be quickly fixed by simply leaving the phone charged for at least 30 minutes. If that won’t change anything, consider using another charger and/or USB cord. If that won’t charge the phone either, connect it to a computer or laptop and let it charge for an hour. If nothing is resolved and the phone is still unresponsive (no vibrations, no lights, no other indicators), then that’s the time that you want to have the hardware checked for possible hardware failure. It can be a bad battery or any other hardware component that may have failed.
Hello there. I have been using Samsung S7 since March and so far so good. Or it was, until a week ago when my device has been restarting itself randomly, no matter what kind of application I was using or how many apps I was working on the same time. It was just restarting, then entering a boot loop (probably forever if I don’t interact), making the phone untrustworthy. When it enters the boot loop, I enter recovery mode. It doesn’t let me to do this with the first try. It’s hard, taking several minutes. Then if I clear cache (or not, just enter the recovery mode) and reboot, device goes back to normal. This could happen from none to five times a day. Of course I made my moves, doing a factory reset (twice), checking apps and updating, although the time this occurred for the first time was not any close to an update, which made me suspicious if it’s a random firmware error or a hardware error (bad contact or faulty part that is making the errors.) The device is still on warranty, but to be honest the treatment in my country is far from customer friendly. It may take a month, keeping my device in a cardboard until someone picks it up and just return it to me by replying “it’s all fine”.
So, my question is, could it be a hardware error? Or it’s software causing too much trouble (clearing cache, doing factory reset and always using the same apps from the day one was the way i went). Can I do anything else? Thank you very much for your time. It’s important for me to know. — Minas
Solution: Hi Minas. It’s hard to know for sure if there’s a hardware issue involved but issue appears that way. The thing is, Android troubleshooting is simple. You just have to try all software solutions first and ultimately do factory reset. If you’ve exhausted everything, including factory reset, then your next best move is to submit the phone for repair or replacement. There are no special tricks or hacks that you can do on your end to somehow resolve an issue like this.
Random reboot issue can be caused by a malfunctioning battery or a problematic CPU. These two are the only “common” hardware causes that we usually encounter. Other components can, of course, fail and manifest in random reboot issue as well so a full hardware check is necessary to isolate the real cause.
So Thursday of last week (8/18/16) I started getting the pop up message “Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped” when I would try to send a text message. This only happened on certain contacts though. By Saturday, none of my texts would send and I was getting the pop up every time, but only after I hit send. On Monday of this week (8/22/16) a few of the old text that where still pending went though. I did absolutely nothing to cause this, and was not even touching the phone when it happened. A few hours went by and suddenly the pop up was back and texts where not sending. The next day, Tuesday the same thing happened. Suddenly all the text went though and we were good for the entire afternoon. Problem solved right? NO. It started back with the pop up last night and is still not working. I have done hard resets and soft resets to no avail. I have read tons of forums and done all the suggested solutions. To no avail. The only thing I have not done is a factory reset, which I am desperately trying to avoid since I loose things every time. I really hope you can help, since my situation seems to be different from others with a similar issue. Thanks! — Crystel
Solution: Hi Crystel. Since you’ve done almost everything, go ahead with a factory reset! There’s no surgical solution for every computing problem so you must try factory reset if you want this problem fixed. If you’re hoping for a “customized” set of solutions for your issue, then you’re clearly mistaken. If you don’t find a specific solution for this issue anywhere, that’s because there’s no such thing. All troubleshooting and “solutions” in Android are general and trial-by-error types. Do a factory reset, observe the phone for 24 hours (without installing anything), and see the difference. If factory reset won’t fix the problem (and without any of your apps installed), we don’t know what will. It’s either a bad firmware glitch or a third party app or service that you’ve installed.
For reference, these are the steps on how to perform a master/factory reset:
Step 1: Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Step 2: Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.
Step 3: When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
Step 4: When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.
Step 5: Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
Step 6: Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
Step 7: Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
Step 8: Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
Step 9: The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
You can now setup your phone again.
Hey Droid Guy, I’ve been experiencing some issues on my Galaxy S7. It occurs while I’m playing a game, using Snapchat, or watching videos. I’ll be right in the middle of doing either of the 3 above and it will pop up and say ” unfortunately (said app) has stopped working.”
I have tried clearing cache, and also force stopping all my apps. The guy at Verizon told me that it was because my network was set to Global, so he set it to LTE/CMDA.
And lastly my phone will just randomly reset itself. I have never had to deal with anything like this. And no one seems to want to help. I would appreciate your help. Thanks. — Jesse
Solution: Hi Jesse. The first thing that you want to make sure is that your apps are all updated. We’re not saying some apps but ALL. Outdated or incompatible apps can sometimes create conflicts with an operating system or other apps. It’s your responsibility as a user to ensure that all your apps are compatible. Contact the app developer if you aren’t sure if their app is supposed to work fine with whatever firmware version you have.
The other to deal with a problem for a specific app is re-installation. You can this by either manually uninstalling an app, or by going under app info page and tapping on Clear Data button. If the issue remains after re-installation, do a factory reset.
Random reset can be caused by either a software glitch or hardware malfunction. Do all software troubleshooting steps we suggest in our blog (wiping the cache partition, observing the phone in safe mode, uninstalling apps, factory reset) and if they all fail, find a way to have the phone repaired or replaced.
A few weeks ago, I switched to an S7 Edge after only having iPhones. My texts and photo texts regularly don’t go through, and I regularly don’t receive texts and photos. I can have a full conversation with someone, and a few of the texts won’t go through (while others do). It’s not saying message failed – it shows that the messages are “sent”. I happens both when I’m using wi-fi and when I’m using my data. I’ve tried other text apps, but it still happens. I’ve reset my phone to factory settings. I’ve tried AT&T tech support, but of course everything works fine when they test it. This is affecting my job performance – I text and send photos to clients all day long! — Tara
Solution: Hi Tara. As much as we would like to help you, this vague issue is best supported by your wireless service provider. There’s nothing that we can do about it since we know for a fact that the issue is happening intermittently. There may be a network problem that regularly interrupts their service to your account, which cannot be obviously fixed on your end.
It’s also worth mentioning that the problem may not be entirely your network’s fault. Try to gather more data if the issue only occurs with a particular contact/s on a particular time of day. The issue may only be happening if you send or trying to receive SMS or MMS from a particular network. The devices or apps your contacts are using can also matter in this case. Actually, there are so many variables that can come into play and isolating where the problem lies can be hard. Still, it doesn’t give your carrier any excuse to leave you hanging in the air. You must work with them to get down to the root cause.
Hi. WE have a Samsung Galaxy S7 that fell down the toilet. Was in for a second, it covered half the phone. It went off straight away. We put it in rice for 4hrs and tried to turn it on but nothing. We were on holiday so couldn’t do much else. A few days later we came home and did some research. Bought Reviveaphone off Amazon and followed the instructions. 24hrs later still nothing. Did a lot of research on Youtube, bought 100% Isopropyl Alcohol, took the phone apart and cleaned it all with a soft toothbrush and then put it in the alcohol for about an hour. Still nothing. Read about the daughterboard and removed that, oxidation present there too. Cleaned it all and put it back together. Went away on holiday and came back . Tried the phone…please note I have replaced the battery also. Now the LED light came on red, after a short time it went green. Tried turning on, the LED light disappears everytime and nothing happens. Put it back on charge and after about a minute the LED light comes on red then after a short while goes green. Tried wireless charge but didn’t take a charge although charging light is green. — Ally
Solution: Hi Ally. Do you know what else you need to try in this case? Phone repair. Call Samsung, have them evaluate the device and let them repair it (if that can still be done economically). We know it won’t be free but letting their technician check the hardware is your best chance at reviving the device.
If you can’t access a Samsung repair shop in your place, bring it to a good third party repair shop and let them do the job. You’ve already did all the necessary “first aid” tricks on your level. It’s now the turn of a professional phone doctor to do their job.
