Corning’s new Gorilla Glass SR+ is made for wearables

Corning Gorilla Glass SR+

Renowned manufacturer of durable glass, #Corning, has now announced a special layer of durable glass meant specifically for smartwatches. Known as the Gorilla Glass SR+, this will be compatible with a wide range of smartwatches and fitness bands (even the ones with curved displays, we hope).

Corning mentions that it will have 70% more damage resistance against drops and 25% better surface reflection compared to the standard glass panels on smartwatches. Just like we saw on smartphones, it seems like Gorilla Glass SR+ will soon become a standard on smartwatches and fitness accessories.

This is welcome news for wearable lovers as smaller glass panels are known to break or scratch easily. Given this announcement, we can expect to see some really durable wearables coming our way. It seems like Corning is using Sapphire Glass with these panels, although it only vaguely mentions the presence of “alternative luxury cover materials”, which could be anything really.
