Samsung Galaxy S5 Is Working But Screen Is Black Issue & Other Related Problems

When the #Samsung #Galacy #S5 was released in 2014 it had one of the most impressive displays available in the market. There weren’t a lot of phone’s back then that could compete against the  5.1 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels that this phone is equipped with. While the display of this phone is quite amazing there are instances when some screen issues can occur. This is what we will tackle today as we address the Galaxy S5 is working but screen is black issue & other related problems.

S5 Is Working But Screen Is Black

Problem: Ok so I had a full memory after downloading some vr apps but it showed that I had 300mb still available even though it wouldn’t allow me to download anymore. Through another app I downloaded two short videos then went home to charge my phone. As soon as I plugged it in the screen went black. The keys still work and glow and I can here when I tap open an app, I just can’t see a thing. I’ve tried all of the soft reset options I’ve found online and none work. I tried to do a hard reset too but the problem is I can’t tell if i’m doing it cause I can’t see a thing. I didn’t drop it so it’s gotta be a software issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microSd card of the phone then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear its RAM. Next, reinsert just the battery then try to turn on the phone. If you are still getting a black screen then perform the steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur. It’s best if you perform the steps below with the phone connected to its charger.

  • Check if a third party app is causing this issue by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps of your phone are allowed to run. If the black screen issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what aoo this is and uninstall it.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode. Wipe the cache partition of your device.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode. Do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center. I suspect that the problem is isolated on the display. It might have a loose connection to the main board or it might be damaged.

S5 Screen Becomes Orange And Black

Problem: I woke up to my alarm and found that my phone would not show me the lock screen, but would allow me to use the touch functions just fine. What I found was happening was that the screen would flash orange and then go blank. By soft resetting I found could basically use the screen once before it went back to the orange then black problem. I eventually attempted a factory reset, but basically ended up with a phone that opens, and gets stuck with a pulsing samsung logo. I can open the recovery screen and wipe data as many times as i want, and when the screen did function, everything worked as needed. The only thing to mention is that i did wake up in the middle of the night to find that my phone was very very hot at one point, although I’ve found it that way before and simply took it out from underneath me or the blankets to let it cool off.

Solution: It looks like you might have a hardware issue here. The fact that a factory reset fails to fix the orange/black screen shows that the phone software might not be involved in this case. I would suggest that you have this phone checked at a  service center to pinpoint the exact cause of this problem.

S5 Screen Flickers with Green Line

Problem: When phone is off, usually overnight, I charge my phone at night, in the morning when I try to use the phone (not turn on, it’s always on) the screen flickers from black (off) to a yellow colour.  As it if it was trying to turn on and goes back to black  (off). I do this several times until I have to remove the battery and turn it back on. Then it works with no problem.  When I have low battery 5% the screen begins to flicker brightness intensity and there is a green line at the bottom of the screen. If I charge the phone like this, the green line does not disappear until I restart the phone. Previous android version when in monochromatic battery save mode the green line would appear. Please recommend if a change of phone is needed. The phone is 11 months since activated.

Solution: Start the troubleshooting by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone just yet. You need to observe first if the issue still occurs. If it does then it’s very likely that the phone display is causing this issue. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Freezing After Last Update

Problem: Right after the last update, my phone has been freezing, the initial screen is all ‘pixelated’ or ‘puzzle like’ then after a minute or two, the phone turns on…or if the phone is on then it will go into the battery saving mode then it’ll just turn itself on, it also states that the ‘Google text’ (or something like that-doesn’t always happen) stops working. My phone intermittently works and intermittently freezes up.  Please help because we pay a lot for these phones and service for this stuff to happen.

Solution: If this issue occured right after the update then it’s very likely caused by old software data. This old data which has been left behind is causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. The best way to deal with this is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your data before doing the reset.

S5 Screen Burn-in

Problem: There is a faint imprint of a Facebook Messenger screen on my S5 the whole time. Even when I restart the device I can see the same list of names and icons faintly over the AT&T logo

Solution: This is what you call a screen burn-in and is caused by a static image being displayed for a long period of time on the screen when the screen is on. Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset you still see the Facebook Messenger screen then the problem is already hardware related. If you want this to disappear then you will need to have the phone display replaced.

S5 Flickers With Different Colors

Problem: When the screen turns off it flickers all diff colours..then won’t turn back on…it tries to but just flashes and flickers up then disappears. Once it starts working its fine until it turns off again..Often the only way to get it working is to take the battery out heaps of times and restart the phone..Think the phones knackered but wanna know before i pay out for a new one

Solution: The best way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue occurs. If it does then the problem might be caused by a faulty display. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Start After Getting Wet

Problem: i recently dropped it in water but it still has been working fine about half an hour ago i put it on the charger and it started charging and right now when i went to check on it the phone was hot and would not turn on

Solution: The problem is most likely caused by moisture inside your phone. When you connected the phone to its charger some component inside the device might have short circuited. Below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do for issues like this.

  • Make sure your phone is thoroughly dry by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours.
  • Use a new battery on your phone after the 48 hours have passed.
  • If the phone still does not turn on then you need to have this checked at a service center.
