S5 Randomly Ends Call

Problem: Hi there,  everytime I’m in between calls, my phone randomly ends it. This has been persistent for a while. I tried third party apps like truecaller. But of course that was not there solution. Even after factory reset, it didn’t help. Please help me out?  Thank you.

Solution: Try checking if the same issue occurs when the phone is in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then you might have an app installed that is causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest you do another round of factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything yet on your device. Try to check if the call still ends on its own.

One other factor you should check is if the problem is caused by the signal of the network in your location. Try going to different locations then check the call quality.

If possible you should also check if your account is causing the problem by using another SIM on your device.

If after performing the steps listed above the issue still occurs then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Dialing Times Out

Problem: The phone is showing 4 bars of reception; however, when making a call, the phone displays “dialing” for a while and then times out. The phone cannot make or receive calls or texts. If I’m out driving, I can make and receive calls and texts. When I moved home, I occasionally get network error messages and a message telling me to make sure the back cover is snapped fully in place. These messages started at about the same time as the calling issue (may not be related). Any ideas? BTW the phone is 6 months old and in very good condition.

Solution: It’s very likely that the issue is caused by signal problems in your home since the issue does not occur when you are out driving. Try to check how many signal bars you have while you are at home. You should also check which particular area in your home the problem occurs as this area might not be getting the full signal from the towers.

As for troubleshooting the phone, listed below are some of the steps you can do.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in the device which could be causing the problem. Try to check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Contact Photo Not Showing

Problem: Prior to the Marshmallow update, when receiving a call from a favorite contact whose pic was stored in the contact info, their pic was displayed so I could see who was calling. This no longer happens. The screen is now blank when they call. Please advise. Thanks!

Related Problem: I just updated to marshmallow 6.0.1. I was having a few problems so I did a factory reset, that appeared to fix all but 1. When I receive and end calls my contact pictures are not showing. It is just a white screen. I have looked through every setting I can find that has anything to do with the contacts but can’t fix the problem.

Related Problem: Before the update when I would receive a call the picture of the person would come up that I put in the contact list. The picture no longer comes up or it comes up randomly on other callers.

Solution: Several other device owners who did the update are also experiencing the same issue. While this seems like a software bug that should be fixed with another update you can try to troubleshoot this by wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. If the problem still occurs then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Connecting To Network

Problem: On and off, my phone sometimes will not connect to the network. This doesn’t mean that just my 3g does not work, but also calling and texting (cannot receive or send). This is quite frustrating and dangerous and I can never tell when it is and when it isn’t going to work! Please send me any help you have regarding network issues.

Solution: Does this issue occur in a particular location? If it does then the signal in that area might be weak which is why this issue is happening. If the problem occurs anywhere you are then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone. The first thing to suspect in this case is if the problem is software related. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then a third party app you installed could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Won’t Black Out During Call

Problem: When I try to call someone or receive calls on my phone, the screen won’t black out on its own. Checked the proximity sensor, and it works fine. Issue didn’t start until about a month ago, no unusual app downloads/updates that I remember

Solution: If the proximity sensor is working fine then the issue could be software related. Try clearing the cache and data of the phone app then check if the issue still occurs. You should also check if the same condition occurs when the phone is in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the same issue occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.

S5 Needs To Restart to Get Signal

Problem: After loss of cell tower signal due to location, service does not return automatically.  Can toggle airplane mode off then on or restart to get signal again.  Started a few months after purchase 8 months ago.

Solution: If you need to restart your phone or toggle the airplane mode to get a signal then the problem is most likely caused by a software glitch. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode first then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then proceed with a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center as this could be a hardware related issue.
