S5 Not Charging Properly
Problem: My phone is not charging properly I’ve tried different leads and they all feel loose when I connect it and I have to move it around a lot to charge it because it only works in certain positions and it charges really really slowly, it used to charge to 100 in an 1h but now even after 3 hours it still isn’t fully charge and I check that all my apps aren’t running and also the battery goes down so quickly now whereas it didn’t use to. it’s only been very recently probably in the last week or so
Solution: If the charging cord wiggles when plugged to the phone charging port and you have already tried different charging cords then the issue could be with the port itself. Because the cord moves around it will lose its contact with the port thus breaking the charging process. This already is very likely a hardware related issue already. You either need to replace the charging port of the phone or have it resoldered to the phone if it has become loose. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have them take a look at this.
S5 Intermittent Charging
Problem: Unfortunately, my Samsung Galaxy S5 has a problem charging. I have not dropped it nor water damage. It would sometimes catch a charge and charge to 100 percent but later on it won’t. Constantly I’m trying to plug in my charger but it doesn’t want to charge. When I have the phone off, The battery icon on the screen keeps going on and off with a vibration like it wants to catch a charge. Solution: When charging your phone becomes a hit and miss affair this can become a problem since it interferes with the usability of the device. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do for issues such as this. Perform each of the step below then check if the issue still occurs. Move to the next step should the problem persist.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Your aim is to remove any dirt or debris which could be in this port that could be causing the problem.
- Try using a different charging cord when charging the phone
- Try using a different wall charger
- Try using a different battery
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the problem is software related.
If the issue still occurs after following the troubleshooting steps listed above then it’s possible that a component inside the phone is faulty and is causing this problem. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Battery With White Lightning Bolt Symbol When Charging
Problem: my phone ran out of battery and now when i charge it I get the battery symbol with a white lightning bolt, then i get a percentage of charge battery symbol but shortly after it stops charging and just shows the battery symbol with the white lighting bolt but doesn’t charge at all. i’ve tried different wall plugs, different USB cords, removing battery for ten seconds then placing back in and i’ve tried removing battery and holding down the power button for over a minute to clear the RAM but nothing has fixed the issue. also i have not had the yellow caution battery symbol just the white lightning bolt symbol.
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw before charging the phone. If the issue still occurs then you should try using a different battery on your phone.
Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Battery Draining Fast
Problem: My battery had recently been draining very fast. Sometimes I would leave my phone in my bag during the day and during that time it would die. This also happened during the night, I would have an almost full battery but by the time I woke up, about 8 hours later, it would have died. I decided to get a new battery. The issue of my phone dying during the night hasn’t happened in a couple days however the battery still drains very fast and still dies throughout the day. It also gets very warm during the day.
Solution: Since you already replaced the battery then the issue might be software related. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you can do to resolve this issue. Check if the issue still occurs after performing each step. Move to the next step should the problem still occur.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This action will delete the temporary data stored in the phone which could be causing the problem.
- If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing it.
- Check if an app you downloaded is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Does Not Turn On
Problem: Was using my phone, hit the power button to turn off the screen before putting in my rain jacket pocket (it was not raining just cool outside) and it will not turn back on. The green led light stays on and now kills the battery as well. I have tried a different charger as well as the standard pulling the battery. I have also tried the volume up, home and power as well as the volume down, home and power and still can’t get it to turn on. We have 3 of the same phones in our house so i have tried putting in one of the other batteries, the green led indicator light will come on again but still no power. There is no vibrations or anything when trying all of the different button combos to indicate there is any life left in it, just the green light. Please help!
Solution: Have you tried checking if you are able to access the recovery mode of your phone? If you are able to then I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data. If the phone can’t access recovery mode then this issue is most likely caused by a component inside the phone that has gone bad. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Sometimes Charges
Problem: I have had this issue for a while now, my S5 sometimes charges, but not always. I plug it in and leave it for a while and it may be a few hours into the night before I hear it begin charging. I am afraid of doing a factory reset as I am unable to connect my phone to my PC via a cable to backup my data due to this issue. I am positive it isn’t a faulty charging port because it does in fact charge, but not straight away. I usually have to wait a few hours before anything happens. Some nights it doesn’t charge at all. I have tried starting the phone in safe-mode with still no luck. Which leads me to believe that a factory reset won’t fix the issue? I may be wrong. I’ve tried removing dust, cleaning the ports, new cables, new chargers and still nothing. I hope you can help. Thank you.
Solution: The problem could either be a loose connection between the charging port and the motherboard or it could be caused by a faulty charging IC or even a bad battery. Before bringing your phone to a service center to have it checked I suggest you try using a different battery on your phone. If this doesn’t work then I highly recommend you perform a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
S5 Shuts Down When Phone Is In Sleep Mode
Problem: The phone shuts off by itself after the screen turns black for sleep mode. In order to get the phone to restart the battery must be removed. We have done a cache wipe still to no avail. This happened with the lollipop and marshmallow updates but stopped about a week after the lollipop update.
Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update I highly recommend that you do a factory reset. This reset will erase any old software data that may not have been removed during the update process. If this data is present in your device it will cause a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S5 Not Charging After Getting Wet
Problem: I dropped my phone in a small amount of water and now it charges but when I turn it off it charges for a while and then doesn’t charge at all then at the end a yellow triangle appears with a exclamation point
Solution: One of the reasons why your phone will display a yellow triangle with exclamation mark is because of liquid damage which is very likely in this scenario. Make sure your phone is thoroughly dry before doing any troubleshooting. To dry your phone just remove any part that can be removed such as the back cover, battery, SIM card, microSD card. Make sure no liquid is present before placing the phone in a bag of rice. Leave the phone there for 2-3 days. The rice will absorb any moisture inside the phone. As an alternative you can also use packets of silica gel instead of rice.
After drying your phone check if you are now able to charge it. If the issue still occurs then have your phone checked at a service center.
