Note 4 Home Screen Remains Black After Marshmallow Update

Problem: My note 4 working in excellent condition until ..today.. I received automatic notification on new software update ( Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow). I accept and installed. After few minutes, the home screen is not appear and  remain black screen. I push the power button but nothing happen except the blue light notification blinking and there were sound when the volume button pressed. That mean the phone is working but the phone screen still black. I removed the battery and pressed the power button more than 1 minute.Reinstall back the battery and push the power button. It’s work. The home screen appear as usual and phone working normally. However, The screen will be black again when I push the power button. Again , I repeat the same trouble shooting again and again but the result still the same. Screen will go off when I push the power button or when the phone automatically on sleep or standby mode ( inactive). Then I backup all my data and do the factory reset. Unfortunately, did not solve the problem. I think this is because Marshmallow. Please advise

Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset which didn’t resolve the issue then the problem could be caused by the update itself. You can try to rollback to the previous software version by manually flashing the previous stock firmware file to your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

If the issue still occurs even after flashing the old software version then the problem could be hardware related. If this is the case then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

Note 4 Screen Is Black After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I thank in advance for the support and guidance. Indeed I upgraded software on my Note 4 to Android 6 Marshmallow on May 30th, after installation of latest version the phone screen after turning off was not becoming active despite pressing home and power buttons. Also sound went on complete mute despite full volumes though notification light was blinking. When I called on my number from another phone it was ringing but there was no sign of income call on my screen and it was black. After removing battery I powered on phone and was able to see missed calls and messages and as long I kept screen active it was fine and it was ringing for incoming calls and sms. I did reset and went back to lollipop version till fixing of bugs in marshmallow. When I noticed release of new patch on June 23, today I downloaded Marshmallow 6.0.1 again to give a try and to my luck this time again screen doesn’t turns on once it sleep on inactivity or by pressing power button. To use phone I’m required to remove and insert battery and use phone. Only difference this time is that sounds are working fine for calls and other notifications. From developer options I checked on prevent sleep when on charge and using it. Your help on how to fix this bug will be highly appreciated.

Solution: This problem could be caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the upgrade. Try starting your phone first in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data of your device which could be causing this problem. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Screen Does Not Wake After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Soft reset and wipe cache partition do not solve this issue after Marshmallow update. When the phone is locked, I have to repeatedly touch the “home” button before it wakes up. Increase touch sensitivity is enabled.  All apps updated. No new apps installed in quite some time. Asp experiencing increased battery drain. I do not leave apps running in the background and settings in developer options have been optimized.

Solution: One other option which you might not have performed yet is a factory reset. This will erase any old software data that could still be in your phone and is causing this issue. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 4 Screen Is Black After Phone Dropped

Problem: Yesterday the phone dropped and the screen went blank and the Samsung note 4 logo and then the blue purple light started blinking. Whenever i try turning it on it vibrates and the blue light comes on but the screen is black.

Solution: Since the phone was dropped there’s a possibility that the display got damaged. Try starting your phone in recovery mode and see if the same issue occurs. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it’s possible that this is caused by a software glitch. You will have to do a factory reset if this is the case. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the same issue occurs in recovery mode then you should have your phone checked at a service center. It’s possible that the display may need to be replaced.

Note 4 Touchscreen Stopped Working After Phone Dropped

Problem: My note 4 edge was dropped and when I picked it up the touch screen wouldn’t work for my finger. But the s pen works fine. Is there a simple and less expensive way to fix my phone, then having it sent in?  Please help,  thanks.

Solution: It’s most likely that the digitizer of the phone has been damaged. If this is the case then the whole display assembly must be replaced. If you are familiar with working on electronic devices you can do the replacement yourself. You need to buy the display for your particular phone. You can also view some of the YouTube tutorial videos that show how the screen of this phone is replaced.

Before doing all of the above you should first check if the issue still occurs even after a factory reset. This is to make sure that the problem is not software related. Make sure to backup your phone data before the reset.

Note 4 Screen Will Go Black

Problem: My screen will just go black and I’ll click the lock button but it won’t turn on, I’ll have to take the battery out and put it back on and then try and see if it turns on, after like 20 tries it’ll turn back on, but it’ll do it again

Solution: There are two things that you can do to fix this problem. First, you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes the temporary data stored in the phone which if corrupt can cause this problem. Second, if the issue still persist then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
