#Skype has announced that devices running on software versions older than Android 4.0.3 will no longer receive updates on the app. While this may seem brutal for those using older versions of Android, Skype is clearly worried about the user experience aspect here. The app has come a long way since it was first launched and then acquired by Microsoft. Changes like these were to be expected as mobile platforms evolve and newer features are added to the app.
It must be noted that Microsoft will be ceasing Skype support for software versions older than iOS 8 and Windows 10 Mobile (including Windows Phone 8). So Android is not the only casualty from this new announcement. The Skype team also addressed some of the nagging issues that users are currently facing, such as message syncing between devices and notifications being delayed. It is said that this can be attributed to the slow transition that the team is making from P2P to cloud servers.
