Just as rumored, #BlackBerry has managed to offer details on its upcoming #Android smartphone today, known as the BlackBerry DTEK50. The handset is said to be the “world’s most secure smartphone”, which is quite a testimonial for a $300 smartphone. As expected, the handset is not particularly blessed in the specs department, at least when compared to Samsung, HTC and LG flagships, but will do the job just fine for the price quoted by the manufacturer.
The handset is equipped with BlackBerry’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow based custom software, with a suite of security features that one would only find on BB devices. On this front, the handset is not too different from the Priv, which was released last year. However, the DTEK50 is a touchscreen handset with no slide out keyboard. This might not necessarily be a bad thing as the market is used to touchscreen phones anyway.
The DTEK50 is packing a 5.2-inch 1080p display, an octa-core Snapdragon 617 SoC, 16GB of expandable storage, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera and a 2,610 mAh battery under the hood. The handset will be compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile’s networks in the U.S., which is to be expected since it’s an unlocked offering.
The handset can be pre-ordered from BlackBerry’s website right away.
