S5 Shuts Down Does Not Turn On

Problem: I recently downloaded the new 6.0 update then updated google play services then my device suddenly shut down. It booted back up automatically showing the device name powered by android and everything but it wouldn’t go on to show the next phase of the boot up process which was to show Verizon wireless’s logo. My S5 kept trying to boot up but kept showing the device name then blacking out then repeating the pattern. I plugged the charger and suddenly, it wasn’t shutting down. For as long as I kept the charger in it wouldn’t shut down until I pulled the charger cord then it began trying to boot up again. I let the device try to boot up without the charger for a few minutes then I gave up and plugged the charger back in. It then showed the screen where the device would be low on power and needed to charge. There was a grey battery icon then it turned green and started to charge normally as if it was starting from zero but it was at 81%. I would really appreciate your help. I cannot get my S5 to work without the charger plugged in.

Solution: It’s possible that this issue could be caused by a faulty battery since you mentioned that the phone does not boot up unless it is connected to a charger. I recommend that you try using a new battery first. In case the problem still occurs even with a new battery installed you should proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the current step fail to fix the problem.

  • Take out the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
  • Try to check if you are able to start your phone in Safe Mode. If the phone starts in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app installed in your device. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this.

In case the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should consider flashing your phone with its previous software version. You will need a copy of the previous firmware file as well as a computer software called Odin to do this. Detailed instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Turns Off Stuck In White Screen

Problem: Last night i went to grab my phone to use it and realized that it turned off. Which was strange since it was charged earlier. After turning it on it goes to  the white screen  that says t mobile 4g lte and just stays stuck on that white screen. Will not turn off unless i take battery out. And the phone becomes very hot as well. Please help i don’t want to buy a new phone. This phone is exactly 2 yrs old

Solution: If the phone gets hot even if it has not fully booted up then this could be a hardware related issue. Try taking out the battery and the microSD card of the phone ( if you have one installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery ( leave the microSD out) then turn on your phone.

If the issue still persists then check if you are able to start your phone in recovery mode. From here there are two things you can do.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone
  • Do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first.

If the above steps fail to solve the problem then you should try using a new battery on your phone. If this does not help then bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Stuck In Ultra Power Saving Mode

Problem: The operating system upgraded last week. Yesterday I put it in power saving mode, it did not seem to make a difference so I put it on Ultra Power Saving Mode. The set up is different with the newer OS and now it will not turn off the mode. It just spins and spins but never leaves the mode. This happened on 6/5, took it to Verizon today 6/6 and they said nothing they can do. I need a hard reset and lose all contacts/media. I am not able to get to the normal settings, only have option of a few apps. Is there a way to re upgrade the OS without having to do a hard factory reset? I am sure it is due to the upgrade and am stuck.

Solution: Try going to Safe Mode then check if you are able to turn of the Ultra Power Saving Mode from here. If you are prompted to choose a default launcher make sure to choose Launcher instead of TouchWiz.

If this the issue remains then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Heats Up Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi, I went to bed around 2am after using my Facebook app on my S5,  saw the phones blue led blinking at about 5am when I stood up to use the restroom. But to my surprise when I woke up around 7am, the phone was completely dead. I assumed the battery was dead and brought out my spare but nothing, tried charging with different cables and charger but still dead only thing I noticed was that the phone heats up (close to the  back camera) through to the screen. Power button, volume up and down, nothing works. Just the heating up when trying to charge but isn’t charging or displaying anything. Please you help is needed and would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Solution: The first thing you need to do in this case is to take out the battery and the microSD card ( if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. Check if the phone now turns on.

If the problem still occurs then try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. You can also blow into this port using a straw. What you want to do in this case is to take out any dirt or debris that could be stuck and is causing this problem. Once this is done charge your phone for at least 20 minutes using a USB cord that is known to work. If possible use a different battery on your phone. If this doesn’t resolve the issue then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I can’t tell you the Android Version because I can’t turn on the phone. There battery cannot be charged.  I haven’t dropped it not gotten any water on it.  I just suddenly stopped charging.  I tried the troubleshooting stuff, take battery out, clean it, but nothing.  I have had the phone for 2 years.

Solution: Try using a new battery on your phone as the current battery that you have might be faulty already. Before turning on the phone with the new battery installed perform the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger.
