S5 Screen Freezes Unresponsive

Problem: Several symptoms

  • phone will completely freeze unresponsive to any action
  • screen will move graphics displayed up and down rapidly whether I’m sending a text or making a call or just on the home screen – whatever is on the screen at the time becomes a moving target and then sometimes it will go from doing his behavior to unresponsive other times I’ve left it on and come back hours late and it’s normal again, and other times the phone will restart on it’s own during this state
  • randomly restarts in the middle of an operation like a text I’m typing or on a voice call
  • when phone is in “moving screen mode” I’m unable to switch to home screen using home button, can’t use either of other 2 buttons to the left and right of home button (they all 3 make a sound when pressed but nothing happens), and can’t power off by pressing the power button.  To restart phone I have to remove the battery and soft restart
  • I have wiped the cache partition, didn’t resolve
  • I have rebooted in recovery mode and wiped the phone to restore its factory default OS state  didn’t resolve

It might be important to know that this problem has happened immediately after soft restarts before the phone even gets to booting the OS stage whenever it is prompting for the encryption password to unlock the phone and continue booting.  It has happened on that encryption password screen too, not only after the OS is ready and  fully booted. I don’t know if you can help me but it looks fairly serious to me and hasn’t resolved with standard repair procedures.  I can’t afford to have a tech fix it and I can’t afford a new phone, this one I’m still paying AT&T for actually isn’t paid off for 3 more months. Thank you for looking at this for me and trying to help resolve.  I appreciate it much!!

Solution: It looks like this issue is already a hardware related problem possibly caused by a defective display assembly. Since you have already performed a factory reset which doesn’t help then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have the display checked. There’s a possibility that you will have to get the display replaced.

S5 Flickering Screen Fading to Black

Problem: Hi when I turn on my screen to unlock my phone, sometimes I will get a full screen or sometimes I will get a flickering screen fading to black that’s unresponsive. I’ve done everything from reset, uninstalled everything, deleted media, etc and it still doesn’t help. Never dropped the phone, never submerged it into liquids, or anything to damage it in any way. I need any help possible please.. Thanks

Solution: When you did the reset did you observe first if the issue still occurs before installing any apps in your phone? If the issue still occurs right after the reset then this issue is most likely a hardware related problem already possibly caused by a defective display. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 Flickering Black Screen

Problem: One day was really hot and i liked to wash my galaxy s5 water and dust resistant i washed it 3 time in fourth the water entered in my phone, under battery then i put my phone in rice.

i left it one day in a uncooked rice and in the next day I tried to power the galaxy when start power it is black for several minutes and when i press the power button he powered on and started flickering and sometimes makes black screen the speaker work all work just screen start flickering in green when the brightness is in at a low level please help me i have 24 month warranty for my phone but i don’t know if warranty takes the water damage!!!

Solution: Even if the phone has a certain degree of water resistance it’s not wise to subject it to water. When you washed your phone the water that entered the device may have damaged some internal component in the phone. The damage usually occurs if the phone is turned on while getting wet since it will cause a short circuit. For this particular issue I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center so that the technician can check which component has been affected.

S5 Screen Flickering Green Then Turns Off

Problem: Screen is flickering green and then will just Turn itself off. I have done battery in n out, restarted In safe mode, cleared cache, uninstalled all apps, backed up phone done a reset and screen still continues to flicker green and turn itself off. Please help

Solution: If a factory reset fails to resolve this issue then it is most likely caused by a hardware problem. Have you dropped your phone recently or got it wet? These two factors can cause this sort of problem. To get to the bottom of this I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Damage Replacement Options

Problem: Hello, My concern is that I applied pressure to my phone and cracks appeared on the LCD screen (not the glass). The screen is inoperable but the phone still turns on and occasionally will vibrate for various reasons (email and text notifications, password input). I was told that I would need to replace the “LCD Screen and Digitizer”. I was wondering if a less expensive option would be to use the Samsung J5 LCD Screen and Digitizer as it is nearly half the price. Thanks

Solution: You won’t be able to use the Galaxy J5 display which has a size of 5.0 inches as a replacement for the Galaxy S5 display which is 5.1 inches. The difference in size alone will not make the display assembly a perfect fit on your device. Then there’s also the different connector types used between both displays that prevents it from being interchanged between both devices.

S5 Screen Flickers With Green Lines

Problem: Whenever i click my power button/phone goes to standby/ wakes up, the screen flickers with green lines covering half of my screen. I have tried factory reset and it still persists. Taking out the SD card does not help. When the brightness is too low, the screen flickers as well. I have never dropped the phone or hit it against anything. In safe mode it still flickers. Before i thought the cause was because i haven’t updated in a long time because every time i tried at&t said it crashed and couldn’t update.

Solution: Have you tried checking if the issue occurs when auto brightness is turned off and the brightness level is set to maximum? If the problem does not occur then this should work as a temporary solution. A more permanent solution will be for you to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as it looks like there is something wrong with the phone display.

S5 Horizontal Bar That Flickers

Problem: The other day i noticed this bar going horizontal on the bottom of my screen and it flickers and is brighter than the rest of my screen

Solution: Try checking first if this issue is caused by an app installed in your phone by starting the phone in Safe Mode. While in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe mode then try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to solve the issue then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
