S5 Not Turning On
Problem: Phone has become an expensive paperweight. Travelling overnight, I had forgotten my charger so I wanted to turn my phone off at night to save battery. I tried turning it off, it wouldn’t so I just removed the battery and placed it back. I tried turning the phone on this morning, nothing. Completely dead. I tried everything, holding buttons down for minutes, power and home, power and home and volume up, down, slapping the front 20 times as someone suggested… nothing. Dead. I bought the phone on Amazon, unlocked. Could not find an unlocked one in stores. Got it since a couple of months, installed with t-mobile logo and apps, but unlocked and working fine with Virgin SIM card. That is my only phone, for home and work, my previous Samsung was stolen just before, HELP Please!
Solution: It’s possible that the battery could be completely drained already. Try charging your phone first for 20 minutes then check if the phone turns on. If it doesn’t charge or turn on then try using a different USB cord. You should also clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air as dirt that could be lodged in the port can cause some charging issues.
In case the phone still does not turn on then try getting a new battery as the battery you have right now could be faulty already.
S5 Does Not Go Past The Samsung Logo
Problem: My daughters phone… She has it off during school hours. After she got out, she turned it on. She used it for 5 minutes and put it down to do her homework. When she picked it back up to use, it turned off and back on. It loaded to the 1st “Samsung Galaxy S5 Powered by Android” screen for about 10-15 seconds then turns off, vibrates and does this again and again and again.
I tried to do the reboot, safe mode, & factory reset through the power & volume button holding but even those settings wont go past the “Samsung Galaxy S5 Powered by Android” screen. Help??
Solution: Since the phone doesn’t seem to start in recovery mode try taking out its battery and microSD card ( if the phone has one installed). Once both are removed you need to press and hold down the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it still gets stuck in the logo screen then try connecting the phone to its wall charger then see if it turn on. You should also check if the phone can now access the recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then try wiping the cache partition of the phone from here. If this doesn’t work then perform a factory reset. Take note that this deletes the phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first.
S5 Power Sharing Notice Pop Up
Problem: Had a Power Sharing Notice pop up. You wrote an article on this in 2015, and i followed everything you said, even having to go to the point of master resetting my phone. However, my phone still refuses to charge, checked the battery, checked the cable and neither of those are the issue. I’m job searching right now and it’s incredibly important my phone works. Feel free to contact my email at the email provided. Please help me out, I just went and liked your page too. Really desperate at this point
Solution: If a factory reset fails to resolve the issue then the issue could be hardware related. You have already eliminated the battery and cable as a possible cause to this problem. You should then try to use a different wall charger. If that doesn’t work then try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. This port could have some dirt in it which can cause this kind of issue.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should have your phone checked at a service center. The phone might have a damaged charging port or some other internal component of the phone is causing this problem.
S5 Charging Port Not Working After Phone Got Wet
Problem: Hey Droid guy, I’m emailing to ask specifically about some problems I’m having with my charge port after some water damage. I know this issue has been addressed plenty by you and others online but I had some questions pertaining to my specific situation. My galaxy s5 was dropped in some water without the cover over the charging port and while the entire phone didn’t get wet and both strips of litmus paper behind and on top of the battery are white the charging port has gone from working intermittently to not working at all in the 24 hours since the spill. I bought a spare battery charging system to circumvent the charging port however it seems like the battery drains at an accelerated rate even just sitting in my pocket. (this with also the new battery included in the wall charging kit) Other than the failure of the charging port and the perceived decrease in battery life, there is no evidence of any water damage at all the phone functions completely fine. Is it possible that water damage could have caused some sort of short which drains the battery? Is there any salvaging the charge port? Am I totally off base with everything? I hope this is an appropriate email to send to this address and not too annoying. Thanks for any info
Solution: The charging port is basically just an interface that connects the charging cable to the phone circuit. Since you are now unable to charge the phone this means that some internal component inside the device responsible for charging the phone has been affected. You also mentioned that the phone drains its power quickly which makes me suspect that a component inside your phone has been shorted. The best way to deal with this issue is to have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Continues Wake / Sleep Cycle
Problem: For about 24 hours now, my Galaxy S5 Active has been going into sleep mode, then 10 seconds later waking, going into sleep mode for 10 seconds, then waking. This goes on continually and, as you can imagine, is draining my battery. Tried rebooting, booting in safe mode, taking out battery. . . any other suggestions?
Solution: The best way to deal with this issue is to immediately check if the phone software is causing the problem by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before proceeding with this step.
In case the issue still occurs after the reset then the problem could already be hardware related. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 Keeps On Restarting After Software Update
Problem: Recently I got a new update on my phone after that it’s starting to restart on its own it will just keep restarting and restarting I usually have to plug it in and hold the home button in order to get it stopped
Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If the issue still occurs after the reset then try replacing your phone battery with a new one.
If the above steps fail then have your phone checked at a service center as this may already be a hardware related issue.
S5 Does Not Charge Or Turn On
Problem: Hello, I have an S5 Duos that I purchased from an international retailer. From what I can tell this may of been sourced from the UK as it has a UK power charger, although it has a UAE software version on it. I had seen this before it failed. The issue is I had let the phone run down overnight, when I tried to charge it I do not see any lights, (green) or anything on the display showing it is charging. I have tried a different battery and multiple Samsung chargers and USB leads with no positive result. I feel it may be the USB Charging Dock Port. If you agree that this Is the first point to look at replacing, I need you assistance to confirm if the charging port for the standard Samsung is the same used for this model. My model is SM-G900FD, Thanks for any assistance you may give.
Solution: The S5 duos is basically an S5 with a dual SIM feature which means that your phone and the standard version standard version uses the same charging port. If you check on the several eBay sellers you will see that the charging port for the standard S% can also be used for the dual SIM version.
Regarding the issue that your phone has it’s best to start with the charging port. However, if the issue still occurs after replacing the charging port then some internal component inside the phone could be causing the problem.
