S5 Non-Responsive Black Screen
Problem: I would be using my phone texting, for example, then i press the power button to lock my phone to put it down for a moment. I pick it back up a few minutes later and i hit the home button to wake it. No response. Just a black screen. I press the home button a few times in case it didn’t register the first time. Still nothing. I tried the power button and still nothing. I even tried to hold down on the power key to turn it off but still the black screen of doom. I wait a few minutes and took out the battery after no further response. It happened a second time, also when I’m texting/ the messaging window still open. This time I’m plugged in and charging. Same unresponsive behavior but this time i got the screen back by pulling the plug. It was fully charged anyways. Please help! This will be a fatal problem if I had been in an emergency and could not be able to emergency dial!
Solution: You will need to check first if the problem is software related. Try wiping the cache partition of the phone in recovery mode first. This takes out the temporary data of the device which could be causing the problem. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
Another factor that can cause this problem is a third party app you downloaded in your phone. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while downloaded apps are prevented from running. Check if the issue occurs in this mode.
If both steps above fail to fix the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the reset fails to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be a hardware related problem.
S5 No Display After Drop
Problem: Today my phone fell 18 inches off a chair. There is no visible damage. Now there is no display. The bootup sound is audible, and the buttons flash, but no screen. Did several soft resets, including removing SIM and SD. Tried Recovery Reboot: same audible and button flash and no screen. Tried using a freshly charged battery: same. Hope you can help. Thanks
Solution: It appear that the phone display has been damaged by the drop already or there may be a loose connection between the display and the motherboard. The best way to deal with this issue is to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Flickers Difficult to Turn On
Problem: when I let my screen timeout on it’s own, it flickers as it dims, and if I let the screen turn off on it’s own, I have to press the on button four or five times for it to turn on properly. During those four or five times, the screen flickers color like it’s trying to turn on, but it doesn’t. please, help me, this is a new phone and I don’t want to have to get a new one
Solution: Try to check first if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing this problem by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Once you have performed this step try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Instead, check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be a hardware problem. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Went Black After Drop
Problem: It’s an S5 Sport, that option wasn’t listed above. I dropped it, the battery came out. I put the battery back in and the screen went black I put a fully charged battery in it and the screen is still black. It comes on and you can hear it coming on, sounds and little light in corner comes on, no screen. I can’t answer the questions above because there is no screen to view in order to get the information.
Solution: If you dropped your phone and the display becomes black after but you can hear notification sounds then the issue is caused by either a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the motherboard. You can try checking if the problem is software related by starting your phone in recovery mode. If the screen displays information in this mode then do a factory reset. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in the process. If the screen is still black even in recovery mode or if you are unable to access this mode then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Flickering Green Screen
Problem: Sometimes, not all of the time, so it is hard to show people, my phone will flash green and turn black when I press the power button to turn it on, I realized that the screen was still on because I tried to put my password in and I could hear it buzz. Sometimes it is worse than other times, like once I turned it on and I could see the screen but the whole screen was flickering green.
Related Problem: Hello, my phone has a Samsung Galaxy S5 and she is having glitching problems. Sometimes the screen will be normal, but then other times it will blink green. You can still use it while it’s glitching it’s just very annoying. Could you please help?
Solution: In this particular case I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Observe first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Tan Screen Color
Problem: I started up my phone the other day, and it has a tan like color going down almost half of my screen. I took off my case, thinking that the screen protector was making the tan color, but it wasn’t. What would be causing this? It’s really bugging me and I don’t know what to do.
Solution: This might be caused by an app installed in your phone. Try starting the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue occurs in Safe Mode then you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the problem still occurs after the reset then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
