In this latest installment of the series we will tackle the Galaxy Note 5 constantly not charging issue & other related problems. Several of our readers have sent us charging and power related issues concerning this device which we have addressed below.

Note 5 Constantly Not Charging
Problem: Constantly not charging – No red light coming up. Sometimes a restart fixes it and it charges fine again. Sometimes it has to “die” before I cross my fingers and hope it magically charges again.. which it does..I’ve bought a new charger, tried many others at home, tried charging from usb and power outlets. When it acts up and doesn’t want to charge it’s impossible to get it charging until it dies..I can’t get it to connect as a drive to my windows 10 pc or laptop so I can’t back up my files, if you could help with that as well?
Solution: If a restart fixes the problem temporarily then this might be a software related issue. Before troubleshooting the software try to do these other steps listed below first and see if the problem gets resolved. Move to the next step should the current step you perform fail to solve the issue.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. This will take out any dirt that could be in the port and is causing the problem.
- Try using a different charging cord
- Try using a different wall charger
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you proceed with backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if the phone now charges normally. /if the issue remains then you should have your phone checked at a service center. I suspect there may be something wrong with the charging port of your phone.
Note 5 Not Charging
Problem: My began acting really strange the other night. I have tried 3 different fast chargers and none of them will work on my phone. But work with others. My phone also says there is a usb plug in and to select what i want it to do but there isn’t anything plugged in. At 10% my phone says 6 hours til fully charged. At 21% 4 and a half hours. But phone seems to die fast with it plugged while i have the screen on. Thanks.
Solution: It looks like there’s something wrong with the charging port of your phone. Try cleaning this port using a can of compressed air. Alternatively, you can also blow into it using a straw. What you want to do is to take out any dirt that could be present in this port and is causing the problem. Try charging your phone after this.
If the problem persists then proceed with doing a factory reset. This eliminates any software problems that could be causing this issue. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
If after the reset the issue still occurs I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
Note 5 Fast Battery Drain After Marshmallow Update
Problem: My Galaxy Note 5 was working properly till i was using android 5.1.1. After installing an update, it goes to 6.0.1 but since i have installed the update, the battery life remains less than half of before. Before sleeping i charged it to 100% and in the morning 55% is available without any usage. Normal social apps are installed like facebook, instagram. I did not install any games. But still this is the situation at standby. I was just wandering downgrading will be the solution of this? It will not cause any other problems with the mobile?
Solution: The battery drain issue could be caused by certain apps that are constantly running in the background. Thi is usually the case since these apps were optimized to run on Lollipop and now the environment has changed to Marshmallow. What you should do first is to manually check if there are any new app updates by going to the My Apps section of the Google Play Store. You will be prompted of any updates from here.
If all of your phone apps are already updated and the issue still remains then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This will delete any old software data that could still be in your device and is causing the issue.
Note 5 Stuck In Ultra Power Saving Mode After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Have recently upgraded to the Marshmallow as received a notification to do so. Hoping superior performance and features did so. Unfortunately yesterday went dry on the battery while away from a charging point so switched on ultra power saving mode and now unable to switch back to normal mode in spite of trying. Read your suggestion to use Safe Mode have no option , settings has limited options which is not helpful too, need urgent help has a have stash of data on the phone which is very time sensitive and important for professional work. Urgent help suggestion will be appreciated.
Solution: Have you tried using launcher instead of Touchwiz when in Safe Mode? Once you choose launcher the option to disable ultra power saving mode will appear. If the issue still occurs then you should try to backup your phone data using Kies or Smart Switch. Once you have backed up your data I recommend that you do a factory reset.
Note 5 App And Battery Usage Increased After Marshmallow Update
Problem: I have updated my android to marshmallow. At first, it seem to be okay and good. But after some times, I found that my data and battery usage are increasing badly. “Android OS” is the app (?) that used a lot of data and battery power. I have try a lot of ways to fix it but it does not work. I hope you can help me to fix this problem.
Solution: The problem could be caused by old software data that has not been completely removed from your phone during the update. I suggest that you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset to resolve this issue.
Note 5 Not Charging Most Of The Time
Problem: My phone will not charge with USB most of the time and when it isn’t plugged in it will keep saying it is getting plugged in then unplugged repeatedly I also put it in safe mode to see if it was a third party app and it still did it
Solution: To fix this issue try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air. This takes out any dirt in the phone which could be causing the problem. If the issue still occurs then you need to check if it is caused by a glitch in the phone software by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data first. If the reset fails to fix the problem then the charging port of the phone could be faulty. I suggest you have this checked at an authorized service center.
