S6 Won’t Power On
Problem: My S6 died. It won’t power on. When I plug it into the charger, a display comes up (empty battery, lightning bolt), but won’t actually charge. The Sprint tech said it may have been caused by a flawed system update. I need to extract my photos from the phone, but I can’t turn it on. Is there a way to extract the pictures without turning the phone on?
Solution: There is no way to extract any data on the phone unless it is turned on. Which is why the first thing that you should do is to try to turn on the device. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to resolve the issue. Follow each of the steps below, move to the next step if the current step fails to fix the issue.
- Simulate a battery pull by pressing and holding both the power button and volume down button for at least 7 seconds. Release both button then check if the phone turns on.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes then try to turn it on.
- Use a different charging cord and wall charger when charging the phone then check if it turns on.
- Try to check if the phone is able to turn on in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then wipe the cache partition of your device.
- If wiping the cache partition fails then you should consider doing a factory reset in this mode however this will delete your phone data including your photos.
If the above steps fail then the battery may already be faulty. You should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
S6 Freezes Then Turns Off
Problem: My phone will be at 60% it will freeze then turn off and when I turn it back on it says the battery is at 0% the phone could even be at 100% and it does this. What’s going on
Solution: What you need to do in this case is to first check if the problem is caused by a corrupt phone software. To do this you have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset do not install anything in your phone just yet. You need to observe your phone and check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then proceed with installing your favorite apps.
Just in case the issue still occurs even after the reset then you have to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s possible that the battery of your device will have to be replaced.
S6 Charges Very Slow
Problem: my phone is charging really slow plugged in all night with the charger that came with the phone.. Battery only at 49%. Also while it is charging it is getting very hot, as in so hot you can’t touch the phone.
Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to try to use a different charging cord as the one you are using right now might be causing the problem. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is constantly coiled or bent so you need to eliminate this first. Try to use a different wall charger as well.
If the issue still persists then try cleaning the charging port of the phone first using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Sometimes dirt or debris that is present in this port can affect the charging process.
One last troubleshooting step that you should do is a factory reset. This will eliminate any software issues that could be causing this issue. Just make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step.
If the issue still occurs at this point then you need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked as this may already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
S6 Turns Off When Disconnected From Charger
Problem: Hi, My phone was at 14% battery and it fell off my bed. Which it has done many times and is also in an otterbox. When I picked it up an hour later it was dead. So I plugged it in and it said it was at 30% right away but wouldn’t turn on. I finally got it to turn on using different boot options. The phone is stuck at 30% still and the second I disconnect power it shuts off. Do you think it’s a software issue or more like my battery is disconnected on the inside? I have not had any battery issues with the phone. Please help!
Solution: The drop may have affected some hardware component inside your device. JUst to be sure try to check if the problem is software related by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. You will have to do this with the phone connected to its charger. Once the reset is complete disconnect the phone from its charger. If the issue remains then you will have to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S6 Battery Drained Does Not Turn On
Problem: Hello, my galaxy s6 goes 0% battery and turns off then wont turn on again and it’s connected to wall but doesn’t do anything not even the light thats indicates its charging is on. This is the second time i have this issue. Thank you
Solution: If your phone is fully drained then it will take some time before it responds again when you charge it. Try leaving it charging for at least 20 minutes before turning it on. If the phone still does not turn on then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This will take out the dirt or debris that could be present in the port which could prevent the phone from charging.
- Use a different charging cord and charging cable when charging the phone.
If the issue still occurs after performing the above steps then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S6 Not Charging Via USB After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Immediately after installing marshmallow, I can no longer charge my phone via USB using any of the three USB cables I have. USB charging worked fine using any of the three USB cables prior to the software update. The phone is only 4 months old.
Solution: Have you also tried using a different USB port when charging the phone? If you have tried this then the best thing to do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is a highly recommended troubleshooting step that needs to be performed whenever issues occur right after a software update.
S6 Stopped Fast Charging
Problem: Phone has stopped fast charging but only charging normally? The last couple of days the end of the charging cable has been very very hot but now it is cold could this be the cable or my phone
Solution: Try using a different charging cord as this is usually the culprit whenever the phone does not fast charge. If the issue still remains then clean the charging port of your phone since it could have some dirt or debris present. To clean this port you can use a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
Take note that for fast charging to work the phone display must be off. You should also use the Adaptive Fast Charging charger to charge your phone.
S6 Not Working Unless Connected To Charger
Problem: Hey guys, the phone in question is a Galaxy S6 Active, and after using it for about a month it suddenly went dead and did not respond to anything. When plugging it to a charger it showed the battery is at 100% and turned on. But once I disconnected it from the charger it died again. When I tried it again it got into a boot loop, but a soft reset fixed that. Now it’s just a brick that won’t work without being directly connected to a charger. Please help!
Solution: It appears that this problem is caused by a faulty battery. You should however check first if the software is causing this problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that you will need to have the battery replaced.
