S5 Screen Stopped Working

Problem: A while back, my phone screen stopped working. It did not suffer any water damage. After getting the screen to work, I found that my phone can’t stay on the lowest brightness without the screen bugging out. Since then, I dropped my phone in a small puddle and immediately took it out. Since then, this issue has not just been from my phone brightness. It now will have this problem after charging through the night. It also will also randomly do this when I try to turn it on. Ever since the new update, the screen brightness is lowered when it turns off. This has been causing my phone to be even worse.

Solution: Since there are already different factors that needs to be considered when troubleshooting this phone let’s just boil it down to two possible reasons. It could either be a software related issue or it could already be a hardware issue. I’m leaning more on the hardware side since you mentioned that the phone was dropped in a puddle.

Here’s what you need to do. First, make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. Once your phone is updated ( preferably to the latest Marshmallow release) backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset has completed do not install anything in your phone just yet. You will need to observe first if the problem still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could have been caused by a glitch in the phone software. However, if the problem still occurs then there’s a chance that this is already a hardware related problem. I would suggest that you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Screen Flickers After Latest Update

Problem: Since the recent update was received on 4.2.2016 my screen flickers when it dims. The phone also restarts sporadically after freezing while I’m using it (using apps or playing games). My phone freezes up a lot and has been very lagging.

Solution: Try to check if this is a setting issue first by turning off the auto brightness feature of your phone then increasing the brightness level. If the brightness level is too low the screen may flicker due to the nature of Super AMOLED screens.  Try to check if the phone flickers at a higher or maximum brightness level.

If the issue remains and since you also mentioned that the phone freezes and lags then we will proceed with troubleshooting the phone software. Follow the steps listed below to fix this issue. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Screen Flickering

Problem: Screen flicking. Doesn’t matter if brightness is auto or not. Not had a big drop or bang not been by water apart from rain (but meant to be waterproof). I always turn unused apps off. Have tried… restarting, power draining, safe start (still flickers), cache cleaning  and begging it to stop. I really really don’t want to do a factory restart what can I do? But no lingo please.

Solution: If a factory reset is out of the question then you can do the next best thing which is to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. This procedure deletes the temporary data in your device which could be causing the problem.

If the problem still remains then you should consider a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing this procedure as it will be deleted in the process.

S5 Screen Does Not Wake From Sleep

Problem: hi my samsung galaxy s5 seems to be having a problem with its screen. it does not happen all the time but once the phone is lock pressing home key does not on the screen.the blank screen happens sometimes when i get any incoming calls too.which makes it impossible for me to see the caller or answer the phone.i have never dropped the phone.I tried to reset the phone delete all third party applications still the issue remains.kindly help me as early as possible

Solution: Try to check first if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing this problem by starting the phone in recovery mode then wiping its cache partition. Restart your phone once this is done then check if the issue still occurs.

Another factor that you should check is if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem. To check if this is the case you should start the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so you need to backup your phone data before proceeding with this step.

S5 Static On Screen

Problem: I used to download photos from google because I draw and I want to copy them so I downloaded them to my phone. The issue started during the last time I downloaded photos. My phone started hanging. The appearance on the screen changes in somewhat like the television when it doesn’t have proper signal. When it hangs up, I turn it off. When I turn it on again, the SAMSUNG icon won’t appear instead what will appear is the somewhat like “NO SIGNAL” on tv. But I can hear the sound that it makes when starting up. Then, the screen stay the same so I press the LOCK BUTTON so the lights come off. When I press again the lock button or the HOME KEY, nothing will appear on the screen anymore. PLEASE HELP ME.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode. This is a separate runtime environment from the main operating system of the phone. If you are able to access this mode then there’s a possibility that the issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software. You will need to do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that you will lose all your phone data when you do this so make sure to have a backup copy of your phone data first.

If the issue still occurs even in recovery mode then it’s very likely that this issue is already a hardware related. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 No Display After Phone Dropped

Problem: Phone fell camera outer glass is crack . Phone starts up with no display on screen but all sounds are present and i can touch the blank screen and it will respond.

Solution: It’s very likely that the display has been damaged by the drop. Check if you are able to access the recovery mode. If the screen still stay blank in this mode then you should bring your phone to a service center. It’s very likely that you will need to have the display replaced.
