Most if not all of the modern smartphones today utilize the screen as an input and output device. What this simply means is that the screen is where you view all the content of the phone while at the same time using it as a way to interact with the device. S5 Screen Not Taking Input
Problem: The phone intermittently won’t take input because it is busy opening up apps, cruising from one thing to another all on its own. I can hear the “plop” sounds like many keys are being pressed quickly in succession, when in fact I haven’t touched the screen. Often the back button won’t work, just the center home button. But it will only stay there a second and then race off and open another app. At other times, the phone performs just fine. I had a broken screen replaced a couple months ago via a Square Trade insurance policy. Don’t know if this might be damage from that drop that is just now coming to the surface?
Solution: You should first check if the phone software is causing this problem. Sometimes an app installed in the device causes this behavior. To check if this is the case just start the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the issue still occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This allows you to check if the issue is caused by a glitchy in the phone software.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then it’s possible that this is already a hardware issue. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Touchscreen Glitches Out
Problem: Screen is cracked but everything works fine. My touch screen has suddenly starting to glitch out and phone starts as normal but when i go to enter my password in on the keypad it puts in other letters that i did not touch and does not select what letter i want it to. I have tried to soft reset but wanted to ask before i do a factory reset. Any help would be appreciated.
Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. If this doesn’t resolve the problem then you should proceed with the factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to backup your data before proceeding.
If the above steps fail then the digitizer of your phone might be faulty. You should have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 Backup Phone When Screen Is Blank
Problem: I dropped my phone and the screen is blank. However, the touchscreen is working and I can feel the lock screen haptic feedback etc. I have tried a soft reset. The Version is probably Lollipop, but I can’t check anything now. It is clearly a hardware problem. My question is: I want to backup/make an image of everything before I take it to get repaired. I never had any backup app installed. How can I backup everything via my computer? i.e. I can connect with the cable, but I cannot see the screen of the phone to download any apps, change settings, etc. Also: I tried just selecting all the folders in the phone and copy-pasting them to the PC, but it just copies over empty folders. Thanks for any advice
Solution: You need to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch installed and running. Using either of the software you can do the backup.
- Get the latest Samsung Kies software at Samsung’s website
- Install the downloaded Kies file to your computer.
- Connect the phone using a USB cord to your computer. Wait for it to install the necessary drivers. Once installed your phone will be detected as an external device.
- Samsung Kies will automatically open upon phone detection.
- Click on Backup.
S5 Application Button Keeps Activating
Problem: My applications button randomly comes on and off without even touching it when I receive a message or am on another page. It’s the button next to home button on left
Solution: Try to check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the problem still occurs in this mode then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Should the issue still occur even after the reset then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 Screen Not Turning On After Sleep
Problem: Whenever I lock the screen, it won’t come on again. I have to remove the battery and restart the phone every time. It also dies when I’m on a call.
Solution: When this issue occurs then you need to check if some form of corrupt temporary data is causing the problem. Start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. If the problem still occurs after this then you need to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Regarding the phone dying when in a call you should try using replacing your battery with a new one as the one you are using might not be providing the phone with adequate power.
S5 Launcher Settings Changed
Problem: Well I messed with the settings of default apps and I noticed 2 weird apps that pertained to the home screen that I didn’t know exist until just today. TouchWiz home and TouchWiz easy home. I force stopped them and now my home screen has really big apps, only 3 pages with what appears to be default displays and all my customizations are gone.
Solution: Just reset the launcher setting to its default configuration. To do this go to Application manager. Click on options button, then select Reset app preferences and Reset apps.
