S5 No Display

Problem: The phone turns on but there’s absolutely no display. I can hear and incoming sms, answer a call by pressing the home key. the charging LED indicator is working but there’s is absolutely no display. when i connect it to my PC the device comes up blank or at times is unrecognized by the PC. I cant boot it in the safe mode nor can  factory reset it. It’s been dropped a million times but never dropped hard and the phone is scratchless as it always stays inside a full body armour with a tempered glass film on the screen. Its out of warranty. Please advise. waiting eagerly

Solution: If there is no display on the phone but you can hear the notification sounds then there’s a possibility that the display is already defective. Try checking first if you are able to access the recovery mode. If you can access this mode then you should do a factory reset to eliminate any software related problems that could be causing this issue. If you are unable to access the recovery mode then it’s very likely that the phone display is damaged. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Flashing Colors

Problem: I installed an apk and suddenly my screen started flashing colours and my phone switches off.I tried the to switch it on but other than my screen everything works completely fine. I tried to put the phone In safe mode but nothing worked . Please suggest me a way to fix my phone

Solution: If you are unable to fix the problem in Safe Mode then you will have to troubleshoot the device in recovery mode. Start the phone in recovery mode then try wiping the cache partition first and see if this works. If it doesn’t then you will have to do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in the process so make sure to have a backup copy first before proceeding with this step.

If after doing a reset the problem still persists then this could already be a hardware related issue. If this is the case I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Flickers Becomes Unresponsive At Low Brightness Setting

Problem: when I put it to the lowest brightness setting or go to the lock screen, the screen starts to flicker and becomes unresponsive. I deleted a bunch of apps and cleaned the caches AND did a factory reset but it’s still messed up.

Solution: Since you already did a factory reset which failed to resolve the problem then it’s possible that this could already be caused by a faulty display. I suggest bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Screen Is Black After Phone Dropped

Problem: Dropped phone and screen went black.  Reset phone and screen works.  If phone gets hit or if I tap the corner of phone on desk the screen goes black.  Have to take battery out to reset. Have to do this quite often. I already tried a factory reset.  Didn’t help.

Solution: It’s very likely that some hardware component inside the phone got affected by the drop. The connection between the display to the board could have gotten loose or it it’s also possible that the display has been damaged. Since you already performed a factory reset which didn’t fix the issue I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. You will have to let the technician open the device and check its internal hardware. It’s possible in this scenario that you will have to replace the whole display assembly.

S5 Screen Rotation Not Working After Software Update

Problem: It seems that after I did updates of the operating system the screen will no longer rotate. I even did a factory reset as well as soft reset. No success on getting it back. Please help!!!!

Solution: Have you tried checking on the auto rotation setting of the phone if it is enabled? If it is and the auto rotation still does not work then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This issue is most likely caused by some old software data that has not been completely removed from the phone and is now causing a conflict with the new software version. A reset is highly recommended in this case.

S5 Screen Messes Up When Phone Is On

Problem: I have tried everything suggested to fix the screen. It flickers, compresses the images on the screen where I can’t see what I am selecting, changes colors randomly from blue to red to green. It starts messing up as soon as the ATT logo comes up when I turn the phone on.

Solution: Have you tried checking if the issue occurs when your device is in Safe Mode? If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

You should also check if the issue occurs in recovery mode. If it doesn’t occur in this mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before doing this.

In case you experience the same issue in recovery mode then the problem could already be caused by a faulty display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Keeps Scrolling

Problem: Screen keeps scrolling up when turned on. Touching the screen makes it roll faster. When screen goes dim, phone shuts itself off.

Solution: Try to check first if the phone software is causing this problem by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center as this could already be a hardware related problem.
