S5 Freezes When Typing Text Message

Problem: When typing text messages the phone seems to lock up and freeze. A couple of seconds later there is a flurry of letters shown in the text preview window. I have done many things to resolve this issue including clearing the cache on the texting app (I am using the stock app that comes with the phone but I am using Swiftkey keyboard), wiping cache partition, factory reset, and even getting replacement devices from my carrier. When doing a factory reset and putting my apps back on my phone I am downloading each app individually from the Play store. I do have a class 4 Sandisk 32gb sd card in the phone. That is the only thing that has been common between phones and factory resets. Could that be the issue? I would appreciate any help that could be provided. Thank you.

Solution: It’s unlikely that the microSD card can cause this issue but it is worth checking if it is. Try to take out the microSD card then check if the issue still occurs. You should also try to start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

By the way, does this issue occur while the phone is connected to its charger? There are instances when this can happen and one way to deal with this is to try using a different charger.

S5 Not Getting Text Message From iPhone

Problem: Boyfriend’s Mom just got an iphone. She can send and receive texts to everyone (iPhone or other) except for me. I am also unable to receive texts or pics on group messages with my boyfriend and his sister (both iPhone users) but can see her texts/pics separately from a group text. I have tried adjusting every setting I can on both bf’s mom’s phone and mine. I have hard and soft reset my phone. Please help. Thank you.

Related Problem: Unable to receive texts from iphones.  I am able to call and send texts to iphones.  I also tried the deactivation but never received the code.

Solution: Did you previously own an iPhone? If you did then this issue usually happens since the text message is sent as an iMessage.  If you still have access to your iPhone then follow the steps listed below.

  • Insert your SIM back to the iPhone
  • Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data network
  • Tap Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
  • Tap Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.

If you don’t have access to your iPhone anymore then deregister from the iMessage service from the Apple website.

S5 Receiving Text Messages Not In Order

Problem: If someone sends me a long text that is broken up into several chunks, the chunks are not in the right order on my phone.  I have to piece the text back together to understand what they said.  For example, of a three part text, they will display in this order 2, 1, 3.  Am I clear?

Solution: To resolve this issue make sure to check on the date and time settings of your phone first. In particular make sure that Automatic Date and Time as well as Automatic time zone are both checked. Once this is done proceed with clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app. Check if the issue still occurs.

S5 Text Messaging Has Failed

Problem: I can’t send messages to the majority of my contacts. I get the message “message failed”. Sometimes if I enter the number manually then the message will be sent. I have the issue with local as well as international numbers and also whether the number is stored in full or prefixed with a +

Solution: Try restarting your device first so as to reset its connection to the network. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with clearing the cache and data of the messaging app. Check if the issue still occurs.

Another factor that can cause this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start the phone in Safe mode then send a text message in this mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Can Only Send MMS Not SMS
Problem: I can receive SMS & MMS messages but I can only send MMS messages. I have gotten around this by sending a text to one person and myself, so it’s an MMS, but there’s got to be a better fix because I don’t need to receive all my own text messages in addition to sending them. Additionally, yesterday I got a “no Sim card” message. I tried putting something small between the Sim card and the phone case like I read about, but that caused no change. I’m not sure if the two issues are related, and I’m not sure why my SMS capabilities stopped mid-conversation last night!

Solution: For this particular issue I suggest you try to fix the No SIM Card issue that you are having first. Check if this is caused by a problem with the phone software by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs try to get a replacement SIM card. If the phone does not read any SIM card at all then you should have this checked at a service center.

Regarding the phone sending only MMS messages try to confirm with your network if there are any issues with your account that could prevent it from sending text messages. If there are none then proceed with clearing the cache and data of the text messaging app. You should also consider doing a factory reset if the issue persists. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before doing a reset.
