For today we will tackle the Galaxy S5 contacts not appearing after Marshmallow update issue & other related problems. S5 Contacts Not Appearing After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Since i downloaded the 6 update my contacts do not appear. Its says contact list is being updated to reflect language change. My contacts are saved to my sim. I’ve tried restarting phone. Taking sim. out putting it back in. Turning off sync
Related Problem: May 2016 update (Marshmallow or Lollipop – who thinks up these names?). Now my contacts don’t sync to my phone, my menu icon at the bottom of my phone doesn’t work, although the back button does still work. So far I’ve shut the phone down a few times, cleared my cache, soft rebooted. I don’t want to do a factory reset. Why should I have to go to the bother of trying to backup all my important information just so I can put the phone back to how I received it one year ago. If my contract didn’t have another year on it I would be ditching Samsung. I’ve asked friends if they have an old iPhone I can switch to… Any suggestions will be appreciated. Just not a factory reboot thanks
Solution: This is a common issue that occurs whenever this phone gets a software update. There are several ways to tackle this issue which we will be doing below. Follow the steps listed below to resolve this problem, move to the next step should the current step fail.
- What you will want to do first is to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data stored in the phone which could be causing this problem. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
- If the contacts are stored locally ( in the phone or SIM) then try to turn off sync. Using two fingers, swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom. You will access the Quick Settings which will have the Sync button. Make sure to turn Sync off from here. Once this is done reboot your phone then open the Contacts app. Once your contacts appear you can then re-enable the master Sync from the quick settings.
- You should also try manually doing the sync on the contacts app. Tap on the more options ( three dots) then choose accounts. Choose the account where the contacts are stored then tap options then sync now.
- One final troubleshooting step that you can do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Can’t Use Play Store On Wi-Fi After Marshmallow Update
Problem: I recently installed marshmallow, and after this i could not use playstore on wi fi, or youtube, i updated google play services on mobile data, and others will update on mobile data too. I decided to factory reset to try to solve this, and at the internet set up part of the re-boot, it said no internet ?, but would let me continue with the reboot on mobile data ? and now i have no way of updating or using youtube, play store other than mobile data. I have cleared cache /data tried all sorts but to no avail I wish i had not updated at all but i understand that I can not go back to previous lollipop OS? Hope you can help as really frustrated. thanks
Solution: You will need to check if the problem is with your wireless connection. Try to connect your phone to another Wi-Fi network first then see if the issue is still the same. It’s also possible that some form of IP block has been activated for your account which is why you are able to access the Play Store on a mobile data connection and not through your Wi-Fi connection.
You should also check if the issue is account related by trying to log in a different Google account on the device.
S5 Currently unable to download, please try again later Error
Problem: Ever since updating my OS, I get a constant message at the bottom of the screen saying “Currently unable to download, please try again later”. I checked the Play Store, I checked the Galaxy Apps, and nothing is being downloaded. The message mainly appears after exiting my Messaging app AND THEN clearing the running apps (I don’t know the technical term, it is when the left hand side button next to the home button on the phone is tapped and the running/open apps appear). I therefore assumed this was a problem with the Messaging app, and it also only appears when I am connected to Wi-Fi. Looking online, other users have said to delete text messages as an MMS may have tried to get through and this solves the problem, but as far as I know, no one has sent me an MMS. I tried clearing the cache on many apps, I also clearing cache partition, and I tried the option of unticking the “auto-retrieve” setting for MMS, and the message still persists. Please help me with this issue; I would very much NOT like to do a factory reset.
Solution: This might be caused by an app trying to perform an update. Try starting the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data stored in the phone which could be causing this problem.
If the issue still occurs then you need to start the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If you don’t see the message in this mode then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you can do should the issue still occur is a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so you should make a backup copy first.
S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Hi, My phone became kind of slow after the last update so i decided to do a factory reset. Now the device is stuck at the samsung logo and no matter what i do that doesn’t change.. what to do now? regards
Solution: What you need to do first in this case is to remove the battery and the microSD card of the phone ( if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone.
If the phone still gets stuck in the Samsung logo then try to start the phone in recovery mode. If your phone starts in this mode then you can wipe the cache partition of your device first then check if the issue disappears. If it doesn’t then go back to recovery mode and do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will delete your phone data so make sure you have a backup copy first.
If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several popular Android forums online.
