S5 App Stops Responding

Problem: after updating to android marshmallow samsung galaxy s5 has started lagging, the contacts and phone apps don’t open, settings app stops responding, even whatsapp cannot pick up contacts from the phone. i can’t place calls, send sms, or send whatsapp to a new number. please help

Solution: It looks like your phone has multiple issues right after the software update. In cases like this the most likely culprit is the old software data that has not been completely removed during the update process. This is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone first then check if the issue disappears. If it doesn’t then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Facebook App Starts Freezing

Problem: Hi. I’ve got a Samsung Galaxy s5 new and just recently Facebook app has started freezing as in when I want to click on anything on app it simply does not work ie clicking on anyone’s name to look at profile, any notifications even going to settings will simply not open. Once I restart my phone the problem is fixed for about half an hour then it starts again, I’ve reinstalled the app but it makes no difference wondered if you could help. My android version just says  5.1.1 in about device, it does not have any name next to it like lollipop

Solution: What you need to do first is to make sure your phone is running on the latest software version. I’m pretty sure that the Marshmallow update is now available for your device. Try to get this update first. Once your phone is updated you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset you can go ahead and install your favorite apps. Make sure to get the apps from the Google Play Store.

S5 S Note App Stops Working After Software Update

Problem: S NOTE app stopped working on my Galaxy S5 after software updation. I can see all data files in my myfiles device storage. But not able to open and see. My important details are kept there pls help

Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of the S Note app first from the application manager then check if this fixes the problem. If the issue still occurs then try to access your Knox settings. Hit on add apps then tap on S Note viewer. Check if you are now able to access your files.

Other people who have encountered this same issue had luck by accessing sync settings and under their Samsung account turned off the sync for S Note.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset seeing that this issue occured right after a software update. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.

S5 Unfortunately Netflix Has Stopped Working

Problem: Message comes up everytime i go to netflix “unfortunately netflix has stopped working “. Cleared the cache and uninstalled and reinstalled nothing works. It’s the only app i have an issue with

Solution: Try uninstalling the Netflix app again then turn off your phone. Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Turn on the phone then go to the Google Play Store then download the latest version of the Google Play Store. By the way, if your phone has a microSD card installed try removing it as this may be causing the problem.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Overwrites Downloaded Files

Problem: Hello, I have a Samsung S5 and a couple of problems have recently popped up. At my work I get a pdf file emailed to me daily that has my tasks for the day — tasks.pdf. When I download this file on my phone it used to download as tasks.pdf, then the next day would be tasks-1.pdf, then tasks-2.pdf, etc. Now it doesn’t do that and it overwrites the first tasks.pdf file so I don’t have the previous day’s file anymore. The second thing that started happening about the same time is when I open the tasks.pdf file it is garbled.  The default viewer is Drive PDF Viewer, and it used to work absolutely fine.  Now it garbled my tasks.pdf file, and it is unreadable.  If I open the file using POLARIS Office 5  (which has always been on my phone since the day I got it) the file is readable. I’ve searched the help on my phone and forums on the internet and can’t find a solution to get my phone back to the way it was. What is your suggestion to fix my phone?

Solution: Since this is a two part problem let’s start with the first one regarding the downloading of files. When the phone downloads a file that has the same filename as a file already stored in the device it will annex a number after the filename for the second file. So for example if you download a.pdf the second file with the same name should be a(1).pdf. This however is not the case with your device.

What you need to do to resolve this is to check first if the problem is caused by some form of corrupt temporary data in your phone. To do this you will need to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem remains then see if it occurs while your phone is running in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then a third party app installed in your phone could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Regarding the issue of the Polaris app not able to open the pdf file try to clear the cache and data of this app first. If this does not solve the problem then uninstall the Polaris app then download the latest version from the Google Play Store.

S5 Not Getting All Effects Of Snapchat

Problem: I have Snapchat installed but don’t get the all the effects , like slow motion , fast forward and the glamour effect . I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it . What do I do now?

Solution: A lot of owners of this device have also the same issue which leads me to believe that this could be an issue with the app itself. Try to check if your phone is running on the latest software version (Marshmallow) and update your phone if necessary. Once updated check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you need to contact the app developers regarding this so that they can come up with a fix.

S5 Messaging App Opens On Its Own

Problem: Everytime i unlock my phone i get a blank messaging app: it looks like you have opened the standard messaging app but nothing shows except the color of the ‘app’. I can get out of it if i push the bottom left hand button of my phone to show all apps open or push the centerpiece button.

Solution: If this is the stock messaging app then you should try to clear its cache and data from the application manager first and see if this fixes the problem. There’s also a chance that this might be caused by a third party app. To check if this is the case try to start the phone in Safe Mode then see if the issue occurs in this mode. If not, then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
