Note 5 Please Check Connection

Problem: While using the app and after couple mins it stops working stating in a notification pop up saying offline. This happens when I’m on my T-Mobile data and when I’m at home using my home wireless Internet. It keeps kicking of saying offline please check connection. If you can give me any help at all on the fix it would be really helpful. Or if there is a way to downgrade back to the factory 5.1.1 that would also be great. Thanks

Solution: While this latest Marshmallow update comes with several improvements and bug fixes when compared to the previous software version some people are having problems with it. One common issue is related to the connectivity of the device. In this case, your phone is having difficulty staying online while connected to either a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do to resolve the matter. Move to the next step should the current step fail to resolve the issue.

  • Toggle the Airplane Mode by turning it on and off. Check if this resolves the issue.
  • Delete the Wi-Fi connection from your phone. Restart the device then add the Wi-Fi connection. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Check if the phone is using the correct APN settings. Change the APN settings of your phone if necessary. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then a third party app in your phone could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue and you want to downgrade back to Lollipop you can do this manually by flashing a stock Lollipop firmware to your phone. Instructions on how to perform this step can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 5 Check Connection Error

Problem: The phone is constantly telling me to check my connection. I’m always connected to wifi at home.  I don’t have any issues with the wifi at all, as other devices work.  It happens while in FB or if I click on a link on another site.  I restart the phone and this usually fixes it.  I’ve uninstalled / reinstalled FB app. I’ve deleted apps too. I hate having to restart my phone multiple times per day.  Please advise.  This phone is only a few months old. Thank you.

Solution: Does this issue only occur while your phone is using a Wi-Fi connection? If it is then we will concentrate our troubleshooting in this connection type. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps for this issue. Move to the next step should the issue remain unresolved.

  • Restart your phone and the router. Once both devices have fully booted up check if the issue still occurs.
  • Toggle the Airplane Mode then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Delete the Wi-Fi connection from your device. Restart the phone then add the connection again.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start your phone in Safe mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded and installed in your device. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 5 No Connection Error

Problem: Since the marshmallow update,  I have to do Google voice search twice, first time takes you to the no connection screen and you have to hit retry then say what you’re looking for again then it works.  Then when i’m on Facebook or Internet i’ll have 4 bars lite and a box at the bottom of the screen pops up and says no connection while I’m on the Internet with signal, so I have to put it on airplane mode then turn airplane mode off to get connection back, it keeps doing this and to my friends phones too since the update so it’s not my phone.

Solution: If the toggling the Airplane Mode fixes the issue temporarily then the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your device. Ty wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode then check if this fixes the problem. If it doesn’t then you will need to start your phone in Safe Mode. From here try to go online then see if you still experience the problem. If the issue disappears then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 5 Wi-Fi Not Automatically Connecting To Wi-Fi After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Ever since I updated my Note 5 to the Marshmallow version, my WiFi no longer connects automatically to any network – not my home, office, gym, etc. As a result, I am ALWAYS using data, even when I my phone used to connect automatically to my password-protected home network. I have to remember to manually go into the WiFi settings, at which point my phone begins to scan for networks, and then it realizes I am home/at work/etc and then connects me. This was never an issue before I updated to Marshmallow. Is there something I can do?

Solution: You can start the troubleshooting by deleting all of the Wi-Fi connections in your phone. Restart the device then add the connections again. Check if this fixes the issue. If it doesn’t then I recommend that you wipe the cache partition of your phone to clear out the temporary data in your phone that could be causing the problem.

If the above steps don’t work then I recommend you do a factory reset. Take note that you need to backup your phone data before performing this procedure.

Note 5 No Connection After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Upgraded to Marshmallow.  Connectivity issues, on THIRD phone, used the latest upgrade of Marshmallow after the issue was reported.  still having same issue on 2nd phone, worked for about 1 week or so.   OK Google says OFFLINE, Facebook say CANNOT CONNECT.  Other apps work on and off.depending.  Will get a NO INTERNET CONNECTION while on 4G in (WiFi turned off). Left 3rd Note 5 verizon sent on Lollipop.  Want to upgrade but afraid to.

Solution: It looks like the update is causing this connectivity problem on the device. In cases like this the best thing to do is to perform a factory reset once the phone has been updated. Make sure to backup your phone data first before doing this.
