Note 4 Stopped Sending Texts
Problem: My phone just recently stopped sending texts, if they go through at all it’ll take several several minutes. If anyone texts me I won’t get it for awhile. I’ve tried restoring it from the power button, taking out the battery, and deleting all messages on the phone. I’ve just gotten this phone recently too (around the 18) but haven’t been able to send mms’s for the whole time. I’m using Straight Talk and would call them but their customer service apparently is awful, help please
Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to make sure that there are no network outages in your area and that your account has an active text messaging subscription. You will need to contact your service provider regarding this. Once you have cleared this up it’s time to troubleshoot the phone.
Since you mentioned that the issue occurred recently then I suggest you check if an app you installed is causing this problem. To do this just start your phone in Safe Mode then try sending a text message in this mode. If you are able to send a text message then the issue could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then try to check if the message center number of your phone has changed. This number should be +13123149810. Make the necessary changes in your phone if needed.
Regarding your phone not able to send an MMS this could be caused by an incorrect APN setting. Compare the APN setting of your phone to the one used by Straight Talk. Make the necessary changes in your device if needed. Also, make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription since this is required for sending and receiving an MMS.
If the issue still persists then you should try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Can’t Send Text Message
Problem: I have a Sprint Note 4 through straight talk and as of last week i have been unable to send text. I have contacted Straight talk repeatedly and still am not recieve text, I have had a Samsung tech examine the phone. I also spoke to sprint concerning this and I was told that this is a service provider issue. I am able to sent text via picture messaging. Straight talk has only basically had me update the and reset the phone and pass the blame elsewhere.
Solution: Similar to the issue we addressed above, have your carrier check first if there are any network outages in your area. You should also have your account check, specifically the text messaging subscription if it is active.
In troubleshooting the phone you should first check if an app you installed is causing the problem. To do this just start your phone in Safe Mode then try to send a text message. If you are able to send a text message in this mode then an app you installed could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. In case you can’t send a text message in this mode then check if the SMSC or text message center number of your phone matches the one your carrier is using. Make the necessary changes in your device if needed.
Finally, if the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Not Receiving Some Messages
Problem: Some of the messages people send to me aren’t coming through. I didn’t even know it was happening until last week, out of nowhere, my message app said there were 48 unread messages (the number 48 popped up on the message icon on my phone) and after going through the contacts it said had unread messages I can’t figure out if they were anywhere from a day to a month old. And now people are telling me I haven’t responded to messages I haven’t gotten. I’ve done the soft reset and still nothing, so at this point I’m waiting for my phone to randomly tell me I have a whole bunch of messages I never got when they were sent. Please help!
Solution: In cases like this you need to contact your carrier first and inquire if there are any network related issues in your area that could be causing this problem. Once this is cleared proceed with troubleshooting the phone by following the steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue remains unresolved.
- Start your phone in Safe Mode. Observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app you downloaded could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Clear the cache and data of the messaging app.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data of your device which could be causing the issue.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Not Sending Receiving Text Message
Problem: Messaging was working fine, I hadn’t installed any new apps but when I tried to send texts a few days ago they stopped being able to be sent or received. Other messaging apps will not work either. Everything else goes through except texts. I tried clearing the cache for the messaging apps, stopping and restarting the apps, restarting my phone, turning it to safe mode, and factory resetting it but nothing helps.
Solution: In issues such as this it is always a good idea to contact your service provider first and inquire if there are any network problems in your area that prevents you from receiving and sending text messages. You should also check with them if your text message subscription is active.
To troubleshoot the phone begin with starting the phone in Safe Mode. Check if you are able to send and receive a text message in this mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
In case the issue still occurs in Safe Mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Resending Old Text Messages
Problem: My phone is resending some of my old messages I had sent earlier that day at random times. For example, I was texting my girlfriend until about 10:30 last night and this morning she woke up this morning with five different old messages I had sent her but it didn’t show up on my phone at all. Any suggestions would help! Thank you.
Solution: This issue could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try clearing the cache and data of your phone’s text messaging app first. Follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone. Check if the issue still occurs.
If the problem remains your next step is to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing this problem. To do this you need to start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the text messages are resent in this mode. If they aren’t then a third party app installed in your phone could be causing this issue. Find out what this app is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you can do should the issue still occur is a factory reset. Take note that you have to backup your phone data before doing this.
Note 4 Not Sending Video Clips
Problem: Phone send text fine but cannot send small video clips. I have a video I sent numerous times on my HTC but I transferred it to this phone and can’t send it anymore I also made a small video with this phone it resized it but will not send. Stays on sending
Solution: The most likely reason behind this is that your phone does not have the correct APN settings. Try checking the APN settings of your device and make sure that it matches with the one your carrier is using. Make the necessary changes in your phone if needed.
Also, to be able to send a video clip you should have an active mobile data subscription.
You should also check if the messaging app is causing this issue by clearing the cache and data of the messaging app. If possible try using another messaging app such as Hangouts.
Note 4 Deleted Messages Keep Appearing
Problem: I use the Message + app for texting and everytime I delete the message thread of my girlfriend and i’s conversation, it keeps returning and freezing up. Help is needed. Thank you!!
Solution: Your text messages might be backed up in the cloud. Try deleting the text message while your phone is online. Check if the issue still occurs.
