Q1 2016 saw a 3.9% increase in global smartphone sales

Galaxy Note 5

#Gartner has published a new report on the state of the global smartphone sales in the past quarter. According to the report, the global market saw an increase of 3.9% in sales compared to the same period last year (YoY). #Apple, understandably, saw a decline in sales over the one year period, while #Samsung was also shown to have lost some market share, although not as much as Apple.

This leads us to believe that a variety of other manufacturers have had a fairly impressive quarter this year, which in turn suggests that the market is quite open to accepting new manufacturers. This can’t necessarily be good news for the likes of Samsung, Apple etc, but that’s simply how the economy works.

As you can see from the chart, Huawei saw an increase of about 2.9% in market share compared to the previous year, which is a testament to the company’s popularity in the global markets. The Chinese manufacturer has recently built a presence in the U.S. as well, which could have had a part to play in its good fortunes in the first quarter of 2016.
