We received several complaints from Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus owners regarding some screen issues with their phones. Aside from the common unresponsive touchscreen, there are issues that indicate to be caused by some hardware problems like flickering and blacking out, although, there were also concerns relating to the system crash being the cause.

Continue reading below as I’ve addressed some of the screen problems with the S6 Edge Plus that you may also encounter one of these days. You may also find other issues in our troubleshooting page if you have a different concern.

Now here are the problems…

Q: “My wife washed my phone in the washing machine. I put it in rice for two days and everything seems to work but the touch screen. I didn’t know if it got fried from the washer or if it’s something that can be fixed. Please help.

A: Apparently, your phone got messed up due to liquid damage. We cannot say for sure if the touchscreen got fried or something but there’s one thing you need to do–you need to have the phone checked by a technician. Perhaps it just needs cleaning. I hope you understand that this is clearly a hardware problem and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Q: “Hello, my phone has been giving me some trouble. The screen turns into white and its flickering and it happens every 2 hours or so, which is surprising since the phone is still new. It’s been only 6 months since I bought it. I do not touch it when my hands are wet and I didn’t drop it recently.

A: If this problem just occurred without apparent reason, it might be just a glitch in the system. If it occurred after an update, then you should try deleting the system cache, if it fails, then perform the master reset before deciding to send it in for checkup. See below for step by step instructions.

How to Delete System Cache

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

How to Perform Master Reset

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Q: “When I try to unlock my Galaxy S6 Edge Plus the pin code is not there just a back ground the it goes to a half black screen with my background visible it does this for a while then stops and it does it again and says touch is unresponsive. Is there a way to fix this?

A: Isolate the problem first. You should know if downloaded apps have something to do with this issue or not. You can do so by booting your phone in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  2. Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  3. Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  4. You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

If the problem persists, then you should try to reset your phone. Of course you need to backup your data and important files before doing so as they’ll be deleted. Should the problem remain, have a technician check it for you.

Q: “This has been happening for a while. Randomly, and more often recently, my phone won’t allow me to pull down the annunciator/notification bar. I have to turn off the screen, turn it on and look at messages, missed calls, etc. from the pull-down there rather than being able to do the same and access quick settings with a down-swipe of the annunciator from the unlocked home screen. Ideas?

A: It’s a system glitch, probably. Try deleting the system cache first, then find out if there’s an available update for your phone. If there is, download and install it. If there’s none, then you should do the reset.

Q: “I turned the phone off and put it in my pocket and went into the library. When I came out 2 hours later  phone would not turn on. Blue light is on but screen is blank. It makes a noise like am receiving text. This is the first time this happened. I have the phone for 6 months.

A: System crash. That’s all there is to it. All you need is press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 10 to 15 seconds or until the phone reboots. Once finished, the problem should have already been fixed.

Q: “There is a row on top of the screen which doesn’t respond to touch like I can’t press the search button on instagram or Facebook otherwise everything works fine. I have also given hard reset to phone but the issue is still there. Please advice me what to do now. Thanks!

A: If a hardware problem cannot be fixed by the master reset, it means it’s a serious one and a technician is needed to fix it. So, for your problem, since it wasn’t fixed when you did the master reset, then visit a local shop and have it checked.

Q: “My only issue is that the touch screen suddenly became unresponsive. All the physical buttons are working; Power button, Volume button, Home button, the Back button and even the Recent Apps button except anything on the screen. I am unable to do anything. Please help me. Would this be a digitizer issue? Or would this be a software issue only? If so, please guide me on how to fix this. Thank you!

A: At least, you already have an idea what the issue with your phone is. All that’s left to do is for you to rule out one possibility after the other. Basing on your description though, there’s a chance it’s just a system crash. So, do the forced reboot by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons together for 10 seconds. If the phone reboots successfully and the touchscreen responds, then problem solved. Otherwise, you should do the master reset to rule out the possibility that it’s a firmware issue. After all that and the problem still occurs, you need a technician to further check it for you.

Q: “Recently did the upgrade to Marshmallow. Since then the Apps on my Home screen, are 2D and stationary. Prior to the upgrade, they were kind of 3D and when you tilted the screen, the background moved behind the App icon, giving the effect that the Apps were Floating above the background picture. It was a really nice feature. Sad it is not working now.

A: There have been a lot of features that disappeared after the Marshmallow and I think this is one of them. Try to tweak your settings and see if you can bring the feature back. If it doesn’t, then there’s nothing we can do about it, really.
