S5 Software Update Does Not Install

Problem: I too am having trouble with the software update. I have cleared soon many apps and moved everything possible to the SD card to free up 7.01 GB of space. I have cleared cached data as well. The download goes through and the phone restarts, but then it never installs. I have tried several times and it keeps making me wait 24 hours to try again. I have no idea how to clear data in the recovery mode as mentioned and I don’t really want to do a factory reset. I wish I knew what this was updating to. It might be worth it if AT&T was finally giving us Marshmallow.

Related Problem: Can’t install Android 6.0 update. Update will download, phone will go to restart and install update. Installation fails with 0% of install and phone starts back up, without the update.

Solution: If you are able to download the software update but it is not pushing through with the installation then chances are the issue is caused by insufficient storage space. At least 7GB of internal storage space is usually required for the installation to be a success. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue. Proceed to the next step if the current fails to resolve the problem.

  • Uninstall some app that you don’t regularly use.
  • Move some of your data ( music, photos, videos) to the microSD card of your device if you have one installed.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs then you should visit the nearest Samsung center to get help in getting the update to your device.

S5 Update Interrupted Error

Problem: Constantly says it needs update, goes thru the entire process of downloading the update, restarts itself then a screen comes up saying could not finish update, update was interrupted. When it first restarts in the top left corner of the screen it says recovery .booting. I worked some with at&t about the problem but never got it resolved. Tried the software update in safe mode, tried taking out the battery and the microsd card.

Related Problem: I recently did recovery booting for my phone and cleared cache partition to try and allow the update to go on my phone. Since then, it downloads the update asks to restart my phone and i see recovery booting and then it upload 1 or 2% of update before saying update failed and going through starting my phone. I then get a notification saying update failed. My phone has now tried to update itself once a day for the last 2 weeks, and it’s always the same problem. What do I need to do?

Solution: When doing the update make sure that your phone is connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. If possible, try doing the update with your phone connected to a different Wi-Fi network.

Once you have checked that the connection is not causing the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update then download it.

S5 Freezes With New Software Update

Problem: Hello, I am on my 3rd S5 since the 5.1.1 update and have come to the conclusion the update is causing the issues I have been experiencing. On all the phones I have had issues with the system freezing, the display becoming unresponsive, the screen rotation freezing and numerous other issues almost like the processor is being over utilized. I have cleared the cache history by holding the power and volume buttons, done factory resets (didn’t install any 3rd party apps) and still had the same issues on all 3 phones. Is here any way to resolve this? I would even be fine with going back to kitkat. I asked T- Mobile if they had any older phones to replace it but all the phones have the current version. It feels like Samsung’s way of making me buy the S7. Can you help?

Solution: If this problem occurs on all three devices that you have and even after doing a factory reset then this could be due to the software update. You could try to install a previous software version on your phone by flashing it to your device. Make sure to use the original stock firmware of the phone ( if possible a KitKat firmware). Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Call Log Screen Unresponsive After Software Update

Problem: After installation of Software patch of around 250 MB size, the call log screen has become almost unresponsive. The problem is related to scrolling of call logs which is not smooth, very slow and erratic. Cache cleaning, restarting and deleting full call log has not helped

Solution: It’s possible that this issue is caused by old software data that has not been completely removed from your device. What you need to do to resolve this is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
