When the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 was released way back in 2014 it had one of the best displays of all the phone’s available in the market. Sporting a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display at 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, the display is still better than most of the newer phone models released in the market today. There are however instances when screen related problems can occur in this phone. This is what we will be discussing today as we tackle the Galaxy S5 screen is black with notifications issue & other related problems. What happens in this scenario is that the phone owner will not see anything on the display however can still hear the notifications coming from text messages or calls.

S5 Screen Is Black With Notifications
Problem: Screen will go black can hear notifications etc but screen is black. Take battery out and when i turn phone on screen turns white. This goes on for hours before i will get the phone to work again.
Solution: Have you dropped your phone or got it wet? If you have then it could possibly cause the display to get damaged which will result in this issue. If you don’t recall dropping the phone or getting it wet then there’s a chance that this could be a software related problem. Do the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue. Move to the next step if the problem still occurs.
- Start your phone in recovery mode. Choose the wipe cache partition option. This will delete the temporary data in your phone which could be causing this problem.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. It’s better if you perform the reset from the recovery mode.
If the issue still occurs even after performing the above steps then this could already be caused by a faulty display. I recommend you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
S5 Screen Flickers Goes Black
Problem: The screen flickers, turns green, flashes really bright, and sometimes goes black while maintaining seemingly full functionality (can still hear it and feel it doing what it’s supposed to without actually seeing it) but it only does all this when the phone is at 100% and on its charger. Just did a factory reset last night but when I woke up it was still doing it.
Solution: This is quite similar to the issue we tackled above. I have to ask again if you somehow dropped your phone or got it wet? There’s a chance that the phone display will get damaged if you drop your phone or get it wet. Since you already performed a factory reset ( which eliminates any software related problem that could cause this issue) there’s a possibility that this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s possible that you will have to replace the display assembly to resolve this issue.
S5 Flickers When Charging Then Dims
Problem: I have a 5 mo old S5 bought new. Never been wet. No notable drops (off the desk on to carpet once or twice). My screen flickers ONLY when charging and the screen dims. Never happens any other time, but it’s really annoying when charging at my desk or on the table at night. I have not noticed any other functionality issues. I have cleared any caches i could find. I have not installed any apps that did not come pre loaded on the phone (I know, I’m weird that way). Any suggestions?
Solution: If this issue only occurs when you are charging the phone then you should try to isolate the charger that you are using first. Try using a different charging cord first. If the problem still occurs then replace the charging block.
The reason why you should concentrate on the charger first is that if it is faulty then it may not be providing the required power to charge the phone causing this issue. Another factor is that the charger may have some wires that are shorted.
If after using a different charger the issue still occurs then proceed with checking the phone. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Proceed to the next step if the issue still occurs.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the problem still occurs even after doing the above steps then it’s possible that the problem is caused by a faulty phone charging port. I suggest you have this checked at an authorized service center.
S5 Screen Flickers Glitches
Problem: When my brightness is lowered the bottom of my screen flickers/glitches. Also I keep my brightness on the lowest it can be at night. I do not leave it charging overnight but in the morning when I go to use my phone my entire screen flickers/glitches. It turns black then flickers different colors. After awhile it stops and the bottom of the phone glitches. I tried restarting my phone but that didn’t help. It’s been going on for about two weeks but lately it has gotten worse.
Solution: Super AMOLED screens are known to flicker when the brightness level is set to low. In this case however your phone flickers with different colors which is not normal. Try increasing the brightness of the display then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue remains unresolved.
- Start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data of your device which could cause the problem.
- Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it’s possible that it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the issue still persists after performing the above steps then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 No Display After Getting Wet
Problem: I have this samsung s5 duos bought December 2014. It was first entered by water in its charging port. Have let the phone dry and tried opening the device. it opened but screen wont turn on… it working fine except that it has no display.
Solution: If this issue occured right after you got the phone wet then it’s very likely that the display has suffered some water damage. Try starting the phone in recovery mode and check if you are able to see the various option on the display in this mode. If you are then I suggest you perform a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure that you have a backup copy. If the screen is still black even in recovery mode then you will have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s very likely that you will need to replace the display assembly of your phone.
S5 Stuck In AT&T Logo
Problem: I bought galaxy s5 active for my son for first communion. was ok when i got it. after two weeks i wanted pairing with smartwatch and headset but screen was dead. after few minutes started working but stop again. i gave hard reset shown at&t logo but screen not working. Any issues?
Solution: This issue could be caused by a problem with the phone software. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do in issues such as this.
- Turn off the phone and take out the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This deletes any temporary data stored in the phone. Restart the device.
- Perform a factory reset. Take note that this deletes your phone data.
If the above steps don’t work then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
