Note 4 Not Sending Text Messages

Problem: The day after I got my phone the messages was disappearing so they told me to download the hangouts app it’s just like texting but now. . When I’m in a group chat it won’t send all my messages or I won’t receive them all ! Please help !

Solution: Text messages do not disappear on their own unless some software issue is causing this. Regarding your messages not being sent in group chat there are several factors that could be causing this. Below are the troubleshooting steps you need to perform to fix this problem. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs after performing the current step.

  • Make sure that you you have an active mobile data subscription and that your mobile data switch is turned on.
  • Make sure that your phone has the correct APN settings
  • Clear the cache and data of the Hangouts app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Can’t Send Messages With Pictures

Problem: I bought a galaxy note from verizon to use it with my ATT SIM card it send messages but not with pictures , I’ve tried everything ,I called the AT&T they were helping me to set up the settings but at the end stay the same do not send messages with pic.

Solution: Before troubleshooting this issue make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription and that your mobile data is switched on. Now, moving to the issue it appears that your phone could still be using the Verizon APN setting. You need to change this to the AT&T APN settings which I have listed below.

On your phone go to the Settings menu. Then proceed to Wireless & Networks or More Networks. From here jump to Mobile Networks then select Access Point Names.

  • Name: ATT Phone
  • APN: phone
  • Proxy: Not set
  • Port: Not set
  • Username: Not set
  • Password: Not set
  • Server: Not set
  • MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
  • MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
  • MMS port: 80
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 410
  • Authentication Type: None
  • APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
  • APN protocol: IPv4
  • Bearer: Unspecified

Note 4 Will Not Download MMS

Problem: My phone suddenly and inexplicably will not download any MMS anymore. More specifically it gets a notification that there  is a download in progress that has an expiration date of 3 days into the future, but it never downloads.  I have not changed ANY of my settings and I’m using the stock app.  Thanks Guys!

Solution: Try checking of you have an active mobile data subscription since downloading an MMS requires a data connection. You should also make sure that your phone’s mobile data switch is turned on. Also check if the APN setting of your device matches that of your network, if it doesn’t then make the necessary changes.

If the issue still persists then do the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the stock messaging app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if you are able to download the MMS in this mode. If it works then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Deleted Text Messages Reappear

Problem: Built-in Messages+ app has suddenly stopped deleting messages: when I delete a message thread, the next time I open the app, the text thread reappears. I tried restarting the phone but that did not work. Thanks for any suggestions!

Related Problem: Old texts from Jan. 2016 keep coming back after they had been deleted. No matter how many times I delte them, they come back. I am in safe mode now and will wait a few hours but I have not downloaded any apps recently.

Solution: Verizon messages are backed up in a cloud service. If you are trying to delete the message while the phone is not connected to the Internet then you are only deleting the local content. Once the phone goes online the messages in the phone and the cloud synchronize. Any message that is not in your phone but is stored in the cloud gets downloaded again to your device.

To make sure that the messages stay deleted make sure that the phone is connected to the Internet either to a Wi-Fi connection or mobile data connection before deleting the text message.

Note 4 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Around 2 months ago, I bought myself a new note 4 from sams club through  sprint and it worked very well. About one week ago I was informed that I was not responding to a friend’s messages. The warnings began to increase in quantity and from different people up until now. I will receive only certain messages, even attachments, but for some reason I am not receiving a couple messages once in awhile throughout  a conversation. I have soft reset and restarted my phone many times. I have installed no odd apps that could possibly render my phone useless. The latest thing that has been a large change in my phone was the latest android update. Any thoughts?

Solution: Before troubleshooting the device you will need to make sure that there are no network related issues in your area. You should also check if there are no issues with your account with regards to receiving text messages. For this you will have to contact your carrier.

Once you have made sure that the issue is not caused by the  network or your account then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone.

Do the following troubleshooting steps I have listed below to fix the issue. Move to the next step if the issue still persists.

  • Make sure the phone has an active mobile data subscription and that the mobile data switch is on to receive picture messages or MMS.
  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from recovery mode.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Getting Text Notification If Text Message Thread Is Open

Problem: Upon receiving a text message I get an audible notification. If I have that message open and get another text message from the same sender the message pops up but I do not get an audible notification. Normally this would not be a problem. However, if I leave the message open, set the phone down and a few minutes later the same sender sends a text, I will not hear the audible tone and thus miss the message until I happen to look at my phone.

Solution: This appears to be an issue with the Lollipop update of not just this model but other models as well. You could however try changing the sound settings of the device which seems to work for other device owners.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Sounds and Notifications.
  • Volume.
  • Make sure all the sliders are up. Ex: Ringtone, Media, Notifications, System.

Another alternative is to use a third party messaging app.

Note 4 Text Message Icon Not Displaying Text Counter

Problem: My text messages app icon is not displaying new messages when unlocked, although the message banner bar at top displays the new message icon. Also, the lock screen does not display new messages. Please advise. Thanks!

Solution: This could just be a phone settings issue. Go to Settings -> Application manager -> ALL and scroll down to Messaging and select it. Make sure that the  ‘Show notifications’ checkbox is checked. In the All view you should also go to BadgeProvider then tap on Clear cache, Clear data and Force stop. Restart your phone after this.
