Note 4 Not Recognizing Charger

Problem: The phone doesn’t recognize wall charger via wall plug, it only recognizes it through my computer. I’ve tried multiple cords and wall chargers. My boyfriends phone is working fine since the update and has no issue with any of the cords or plugs I’m using.

Solution: This is an uncommon problem but it does happen. What happens in this scenario is that the phone does not charge using a wall charger but charges using a computer. One likely reason why this is happening is that the phone has some internal hardware problem. You should however check if other factors are involved by doing the troubleshooting steps listed below. After performing each step check if the issue disappears.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air, by blowing to it using a straw, or by using a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Sometimes dirt or debris that is in this port can cause problems with charging.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the phone charges in this mode. In the event that the phone will charge then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you bring the device to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Does Not Charge

Problem: I have Note 4 edge and it has charging issue. When I put it on charge it show charging sign but it doesn’t charge at all….I did soft backup like take the battery out hold power button for 30 sec and reinstal battery it help for a day but same problem again what i should do and what could be a possible  issue with my phone

Solution: If the soft reset temporarily solves the issue then this could be a software related problem. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset is complete check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I recommend you perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone since the presence of dirt or debris can interfere with the charging process. To clean the port you can use a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Use a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone.
  • Replace your phone battery with a new one.

Note 4 Does Not Charge IF Phone Is On

Problem: Phone will not charge……when powered on. Tried multiple different chargers. When phone is OFF I am given the battery symbol with charge symbol inside, phone vibrates and symbols fade, vibrates again and comes back. I was able to charge in this manner last night but battery is rapidly losing charge. Any suggestions

Solution: This appears to be a hardware related issue caused by some component inside the phone or by a faulty phone charging port. Before bringing the phone to an authorized service center for checking try to perform the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the phone charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Try using a different charging cord and wall charger.
  • Try using a new battery on your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Won’t Charge

Problem: My phone won’t charge. I replaced the battery, removed my cache, did a soft reset and tried multiple cables. I am down to a hardware/firmware issue or my connector. My connector looks fine and seems to be fitting properly. I cleaned out the dust and debris and it is still not charging. I have left my phone charging for 15 minutes and I still can’t get it to show the charging light. Any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks

Solution: It looks like you have already isolated every possible factor that could cause this issue except the phone hardware. Are you able to do a factory reset? If you are then try to do it. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this procedure. If the issue still persists then this could be caused by a faulty charging port or a bad power IC. If this is the case then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center.

Note 4 Battery Drains Faster After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I received the new Marshmallow 6.0.1 update a couple of days ago and noticed that it drained my battery super fast. I’ve never had this problem before the update. I can usually have 40+ percent left when I leave the office after a 8-9 hr day but now in the last couple of days I’m lucky if I have 15% left before the day is over. I even loaded Greenify from another blog post to hibernate unused apps to save power and that seems to have helped a little but not much. I also noticed that the phone gets hotter when it’s charging where as it didn’t before this update.

Solution: If the phone settings before and after the update are still the same then it appears that this problem is caused by an old software data that has not been completely removed from the device during the update. To resolve this problem I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

In the event that some changes to the phone settings or new apps were installed right after the Marshmallow update then you should perform the following steps listed below.

  • Turn off the services which are not used. This includes location, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile data, etc.
  • Reduce screen brightness.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the battery drain issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be  caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Note 4 Not Charging When On Or Off

Problem: Hi phone works fine but won’t charge. When phone is on it comes up unable to charge device make sure you’re using a Samsung compatible battery and charger and that your device is properly connected. When phone is turned off it comes up either with a yellow battery with line through it or a battery with a thermometer in it any help would be greatful thanks

Solution: It’s very likely that something is wrong with the phone’s charging port that’s causing this problem. Several other device owners who are experiencing this very same issue had to replace the charging port of their device. You should however check if other factors are involved by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Use a different charging cord and wall charger when charging your phone.
  • Replace the phone battery.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Randomly Rebooting

Problem: I updated before bed last night.  I just got to work and noticed my phone is randomly rebooting on its own.  There is no error code, but it continues to show SD Card icon in notifications with “for transferring photos & media”.  Other than that, I have not installed ANYTHING new.  I did back up to my samsung pc thing before updating.  It appears all my apps are in place exactly where I had them.  I am currently listening to my IHeartRadio app and it has shut down randomly on me twice.  I did do a soft reboot by removing the battery for 10 seconds before restarting, but it continues to turn off on its own.  Help!  Thanks.

Solution: Try taking out the microSD card of your phone then check if it still reboots on its own. If it doesn’t then you may need to replace this card.  If the issue still occurs even with the card removed then try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If this fails to resolve the problem then do a factory reset. Make sure that you have a backup of your phone data before doing this step.
