When it comes to phone displays, #Samsung really knows how to please its customers. Take for instance the #Galaxy #Note4 which was released in 2014. Although it is a bit dated, the phone display can still match and even is more superior than most of the newer smartphone models released in the market today. Having a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels makes the difference in this case.
There are however instances when the screen of this device does not work properly. This is why we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 touchscreen not responding issue & other related problems in our latest troubleshooting series.

Note 4 Touchscreen Not Responding
Problem: Touch screen not responding to my touch, it is working perfect with spen. The phone didn’t fall, just happen, what can I do?
Solution: It looks like the digitizer is not working anymore. If this is the case then the whole display assembly has to be replaced. You should however check if the phone software has anything to do with this problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. If after the reset the issue still occurs then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Screen Is Black After Drop
Problem: I dropped my phone face down. The screen doesn’t appear cracked except for the upper right corner under the screen streaked lines. I can see the top clearly displaying the icons att, Bluetooth, alarm clock battery wi-fi, but the rest of the screen is black. Phone rings but cannot answer it manually. I can answer it in my car through Bluetooth connection. Help if possible.
Solution: It looks like the display has been damaged by the drop. Try starting your phone in recovery mode to confirm first if this issue is not software related. This is a separate environment from the main operating system and is a useful method to determine if the issue is caused by the software. If the screen is still black in this mode then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
The possible reasons behind this issue are as follows.
- Defective display
- Loose connection between the display and the board
- Display driver of the board has been damaged
Note 4 Screen Goes Black
Problem: For about a month now one or two lines will run down the screen horizontally when I change screens. Now today when i unlocked my phone my home screen, was a hazy antique type of look (the colors) and all of the white spaces look like an antique white color, then the screen goes black. The sound still works but the screen is black. I took the battery out and restarted it, it didn’t help. I’ve taken off a few apps, and deleted a bunch of pictures and it seems to be working but my question is “is this a symptom of a bigger problem to come & if so what do I need to do?
Solution: My first thought on this matter is that the phone display could have a problem. Have you dropped your phone recently or got it wet? Sometimes if the device gets dropped or wet issues such as this could occur. There’s also a possibility that a certain app in your phone is causing this problem or it could also be caused by some form of corrupt data. Try to do the troubleshooting steps listed below and if the issue still occurs then it could already be hardware related.
- Wipe the cache partition of your phone. This clears out the temporary data stored in your device that could cause this problem.
- Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then there’s a chance that an app you installed is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This reverts your phone back to its original factory condition.
If after doing the above steps you still experience the same issue then the problem is most likely caused by the phone display. I suggest you have this checked at an authorized service center.
Note 4 Black Screen After Drop
Problem: Phone was dropped. Was in a protective case thick rubber in casing phone with raised edge as bumper so it wouldn’t directly hit on screen if dropped & then also had a hard plastic shell on top of the rubber peice. Was dropped out of my hand onto a wood floor. I’m 5’3 so wasn’t that far of a drop. It does have a tempered glass screen protector on it also. So no cracks, shattering or breaks on the screen. It just went black. I can hear it ring, get notifications still. Led in top corner still works, still vibrates seems all is functional other than screen being black.. any help is appreciated thanks.
Solution: Sometimes, even if there are no physical signs that the display has been damaged after being dropped it will still go black. The reason behind this is that the shock could have damaged the display from the inside. Here’s what you need to do. Try to check if the same issue occurs when you start the phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the phone’s operating system and is useful to check if the phone software is causing the issue. If the problem disappears in this mode then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in our phone. If the problem still occurs even in this mode then there’s big possibility that this is already a hardware related issue. I suggest you have your phone checked at authorized service center if this is the case.
Note 4 Screen Does Not turn On After Call
Problem: Whenever i wanted to end the call, i can’t press the end call icon due to black screen. I have press the power button/home button first before i could press the end call icon. Guide me on how to maintain the screen to be on after my conversation so i could press the end call icon without having to press other button first. Thank you.
Solution: Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that your phone does not have any screen protector attached to it. In most cases this screen protector blocks the proximity sensor of the phone which results to this issue.
If your phone does not have any screen protector then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.
Some form of corrupt data in your phone can usually cause this type of issue where the display does not light up after a call. What you need to do first is to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This process deletes the temporary data in your phone.
Another factor that could cause this issue is a faulty proximity sensor. To check if this is the case you need to access the service menu of your phone by pressing *#0*# at the keypad. Tap on sensor then tap on Proximity Sensor. The ADC value should be between 10-15. A value that is close to 50 means that dust is blocking the sensor. The Proximity value should be 0 which means that the sensor has not been triggered. To eliminate the dust from the sensor just take a straw and blow into the phone earpiece as this connects to the sensor.
If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. After the reset check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you need you need to have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
Note 4 Screen Is Sometimes Unresponsive
Problem: Sometime the in the middle area of my screen i cannot make horizontal line however vertical line work perfectly and after restarting the mobile it will work fine
Solution: If the issue disappears after a restart then it could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode and see if this helps resolve the issue.
