The LG G5 and “Friends” are here to impress you

LG G5 Official

The #LGG5 is official. The smartphone was shown off just a few hours before #Samsung unveiled its #GalaxyS7 and #GalaxyS7edge flagships yesterday, so the two companies didn’t really have an advantage as far the announcement was concerned. But since LG’s smartphone was announced first, we got our first glimpse of what the device would bring to the world of tech and mobile.

We’re happy to report that the LG G5 and its accessories make them the best innovations to come out of MWC 2016, even though the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge appear to be more refined and polished in terms of hardware specs.

LG hasn’t disclosed pricing or availability information at the moment, but the device should hit the markets sometime next month. The LG G5 comes with a 5.3 inch Quad HD display (always-on), a quad core Snapdragon 820 SoC, a 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable), Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a 2,800 mAh battery.

The battery capacity is one area where the smartphone is lagging behind the competition. But that shouldn’t be much of a problem since it’s removable. LG has promised that it will release more accessories or “Friends” to support the G5, so we can expect a battery unit to be one of them.

Now for the Friends that LG is touting. Well, these are add-on accessories that we discussed in our post from last week. There are currently only two accessories compatible with the smartphone – the LG Cam Plus and the LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY. The Cam Plus is a camera attachment that can give you added controls over the device camera. This doesn’t bring any improvements to the camera quality itself, but merely enhances the experience. Further, it comes with a 1,200 mAh battery of its own, giving the G4 a theoretical battery capacity of 4,000 mAh.

The Hi-Fi Plus is a Bang & Olufsen made DAC (digital to analog converter) and significantly improves audio performance. It also brings a 3.5mm headphone jack of its own, which can be a little confusing as the smartphone has a default headphone jack on the top. LG hasn’t revealed the pricing of these accessories either.
