Jay Z owned #Tidal initially generated a lot of buzz, but ultimately failed to gain traction in the market with a miserly 1 million subscribers to its name until now. This is despite the service being available for more than one year. Clearly, the likes of #GooglePlayMusic and #Spotify have a bigger chunk of the market now for a new streaming service to leave its mark on the users.
There was talk on the internet that companies might be interested in acquiring this ill-fated music service. Samsung was previously believed to be in talks for the acquisition, but that supposedly came to a halt. However, a new report is suggesting that the South Korean electronics giant is keen to resume talks with Tidal for a potential acquisition.
According to a note on The New York Post – “Samsung is re-engaging; they are working on something really big, and they’re keeping it very quiet in case it leaks,” said a source close to the talks.” However, a Samsung spokesperson is believed to have said the following – “It is our policy to not comment on rumors or speculation.”
So it’s not confirmed at the moment, but the chips are in favor of Samsung to go through with this. Of course, it’s just as likely that the deal won’t go through at all, so there’s no reason to react at this point.
