The #Samsung #GalaxyS7 and the #GalaxyS7edge have been officially unveiled in Barcelona. The two smartphones were unveiled at a dedicated Samsung Unpacked event yesterday. While most of the hardware specs were well known to the world, Samsung had a couple of surprises for us.
The two flagships were revealed to be IP68 certified water resistant, something that was revealed by leaks a few days ago. Further, Samsung has announced that the two handsets will sport microSD card slots underneath, thus letting users add additional storage to the device. This might be a crucial feature for the North American variants as Samsung will only release the 32GB models of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 in the region.
The Galaxy S7 will feature a 5.1 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, a quad core Snapdragon 820 (U.S.) or octa core Exynos 8890 SoC, a 12-megapixel camera on the back, a 5-megapixel front camera, 32 or 64GB of storage (expandable up to 200GB), Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Galaxy S7 edge on the other hand sports a slightly larger 5.5 inch dual edge Quad HD Super AMOLED display as well as a 3,600 mAh battery while sharing the rest of the hardware specs from the Galaxy S7. Both handsets will come with always-on displays which will let you view notification content without having to turn on the device.
The handsets will be available for pre-order in the U.S. starting Feb 23 at 8AM (Eastern Time), while units will be up for grabs starting March 11. Those who pre-order the devices between Feb 23 and March 11 will also receive a free unit of the Gear VR with six games.
