S5 Screen Will Flicker
Problem: When i adjust the brightness to its lowest, or anything below 80% the screen will violently flicker green as if i’m being hacked or i dropped the phone recently… which i haven’t. Is there anyway to fix this? Or should i just go to phone store to fix it? Or get a replacement etc.
Solution: Phone’s using a Super AMOLED display are known to flicker when the brightness is set to a low or minimum setting. The issue which you are having is different though as the screen will flicker green even when the brightness is set to below 80% which shouldn’t be the case. Before doing any troubleshooting make sure that your phone is running the latest software update.
The first thing to do is for you to backup your phone data then immediately do a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. If after the reset you are still having the same issue then this is most likely a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. If this is a hardware issue it is usually caused by a poor connection between the display and the board or the display itself could be faulty.
S5 Screen Flickers When Brightness Set To Minimum
Problem: When I turn screen brightness to minimum without having Automatic brightness on. The screens flickers terrible. It looks like the screen is divided into 3 sections with the bottom third being brightest then middle part being slightly darker and top third being darkest. The flickering is more noticeable on the bottom third than middle third and even less noticeable on top third. If I turn brightness up very slightly then the flickering stops. Any ideas please? Thanks
Solution: This is a common issue on phone’s using a Super AMOLED display due to the way this technology works. In an AMOLED display each pixel emits its own light unlike in a traditional LCD display an array of light is projected to the pixels. When you decrease the brightness in an AMOLED display this decreases the current supplied to the pixels. The reduction of current causes the pixels to flicker or pulse which is what you can observe as a screen flickering effect. While this does not happen on all devices using a Super AMOLED display it is a common occurrence on this phone types.
To troubleshoot this problem and determine if it is caused by a glitch in the phone software you need to make sure first that your phone is running on the latest software update. The new update could have a fix to this issue.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it still occurs then you should consider bringing your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Turned Black
Problem: It first started with the screen becoming static and then it would turn black. When the screen turned black, you can still receive feedback when pressing buttons or the screen. After a few seconds, it would just freeze and turn itself off. I have tried the turning off the phone. removing the battery, sim, sd cards etc and holding down the power button. It would turn on for a few seconds and then same problem occurs. The phone has already been factory reset. The phone works for a couple of minutes if I turn off the phone, remove the battery and press from behind the phone mainly where the battery was above the speaker.
Solution: This could already be a hardware related problem. Have you tried using a new battery on your phone? If you haven’t then try it first. If the issue still persists then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
S5 Does Not Swipe To Unlock
Problem: Hi I got my s5 from amazon about 4 weeks ago (to replace an s3) and I waited until I could get to the ATT store for help to get my data and SIM card transferred and so forth. Oh and they installed an Armour Tech Screen Protector. When I got home I noticed that I could not “swipe” the screen to unlock. After a few tries I did make it open and I sent a couple of messages and installed my email app and I put it aside. I think that was the last time it opened for me. Since then I can’t get it to “unlock” even though I’ve unplugged and reconnected the battery. It also won’t turn off (pushing the side button I can get the turn off menu but I can’t get any options to engage).
Solution: It’s possible that the screen protector is interfering with the touchscreen sensitivity making it difficult to swipe. Another possible reason that this problem is occuring is a due to a glitch in the phone software.
I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. You will also need to take note of your phone APN settings before doing this procedure since if it gets lost after the reset you can easily set it back. This setting is needed for your phone to connect to the mobile data network of AT&T and to send receive picture messages.
If the issue still persists then you should consider removing the screen protector.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center as this could already be a hardware related problem. If I were to guess I’d say this could be caused by a faulty digitizer.
S5 Blank Screen
Problem: Phone has blank screen. Have to warm phone up against my skin for about 15 mins to get the screen on sometimes up to an hour. If I do not keep constantly touching screen it goes blank and won’t come back on. Then I have to take battery out and start again. Can take another 20 mis. Also after a while it flickers and screen goes green. Phone also gets hot.
Solution: There’s a possibility that the problem could be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Reboot the phone then check if the issue still occurs.
If the problem still appears then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the reset fails to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Goes Black
Problem: Screen comes on boots up then goes black. All of my hard keys and soft keys work fine. I can’t recall dropping it or anything it just started doing it. Can take battery out and put it back it will work for not even a minute then goes black again.
Related Problem: The screen goes black, it flickers then it displays a green background with all thin black lines on the whole screen.
Solution: Try connecting your phone to its wall charger then check if the display still goes black. If it doesn’t then this may be caused by a faulty battery not providing the correct voltage. Getting a new battery will help in this scenario.
If the problem still occurs even if the wall charger is connected then the next troubleshooting step is to determine if this is a software related issue. Start with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
if the problem still persists then try to backup your phone data ( you need to use Kies or Smart Switch to do this) then do a factory reset from the recovery mode.
If you are unable to access the recovery mode or if the factory reset fails to resolve the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue. If this is the case then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
