Android smartphone owners have one advantage over iOS smartphone owners and that is the ability to expand the available storage space simply by adding a microSD card. The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 for example has an initial storage configuration of either 16GB or 32GB. This can further be expanded by adding a microSD card of up to 128GB. This allows the phone to store more data such as music, photos, and videos. Sometimes though, issues regarding the microSD card can arise. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 can’t read files in microSD card issue & other related problems.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5 or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. We will be more than happy to assist you with any concern that you may have with your device. This is a free service we are offering with no strings attached. S5 Can’t Read Files In microSD Card
Problem: I recently bought a brand new 128gig Samsung 128gig micro sd card. Initially I tried transferring music and video files directly from my Mac. The S5 couldn’t read them, even though the computer could and the same files could be read by the phone on a 64gig card. I then formatted the card in the phone. I spent several hours copying music files through the Android transfer software (the card was now unreadable in a Mac after formatting) and double checking they would play after sometimes repeated transfer attempts. After restarting the S5, ALL the files had disappeared. The same problem DOES NOT happen when using a 64gig card. I have bought new 128gig cards, tried different formats, different music files, transferring from a pc vs. a mac, etc. etc. None of it works. As a result, I do not rely on the micro sd card storage for anything important (effectively making the storage capacity limited to the internal). Very disappointing. I must say that I NEVER have these kinds of issues using IOS 9 devices.
Solution: This phone should not have a problem reading files stored in a 128GB microSD card as the phone has been designed to read cards up to 128GB. One possible reason why this issue occurs is some form of glitch in the phone software. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first then check if the issue still occurs.
You should also consider using a 128GB card from a different brand. This is to eliminate the possibility of a defective batch of 128GB card that you may be using.
One last troubleshooting step that I recommend is to do a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to backup your data first before doing this. After the reset do not install anything in your phone yet. Check first if the device can read the files stored in the microSD card.
S5 Can’t Add Or Remove Files Stored In microSD Card
Problem: I cannot add to or remove any files that are stored on my SD card. I have tried doing this using the phone’s file explorer, plugging it in USB to my PC, and taking the card out and putting it in an adapter in my PC. Trying this using the phone just says failed, and when I use the computer it tells me it is write protected. I have tried all sorts, from command prompt stuff to putting tape on the microSD adapter. Nothing works. I’ve read it’s because of an update to Android, it renders the card useless! Please help! Thanks
Solution: Since both the phone and the computer can’t add or remove files in the microSD card then it is very likely that the card itself has become corrupt. This usually happens when data is being written to the card and it suddenly gets interrupted. The best way to proceed in this case is to get another microSD card.
S5 microSD Card Some Files Missing
Problem: I have a Samsung 64gb evo micro SD card fitted to my Samsung Galaxy S5 with the latest updated software. When I copy music onto my card, after a matter of minutes the file with the music is gone. This does not happen to all music that I copy onto my phones micro sd card. Any ideas what could be the problem.
Solution: This problem may have occurred during the transfer process.Where is the original location of the music files coming from? If it is from your computer then try using a different USB cord when connecting the phone to the computer. If the music are originally from the internal storage of the phone and you want to transfer this to the microSD card then you should try using a different file manager program in doing so.
Another factor to consider that can cause this issue is some form of corrupt data in your phone. Try wiping the cache partition of your device from the recovery mode. Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
S5 Low Storage Issue After Lollipop Update
Problem: After I installed the Lollipop 5.0 my internal memory became full even though I haven’t installed many apps on internal. I was not supposed to buy 32gb external memory but I cannot install apps anymore. What is the best solution that can you give it to me for my Galaxy S5 internal memory problem. Thank you!
Related Problem: Hey, The phone memory that is used is a little more than 8 GB, leaving me not a lot of memory. I tried to free up space, but i moved already most of the apps. I connected the phone to my PC and i have used only 2 GB of space on the phone memory. I don’t know how to free any space on my memory because i can’t see what is taking all the memory.
Solution: Some device owners who just updated their phone software noticed that the available storage space in their phone has somewhat decreased. This could be due to some update installation files that are still in the phone. Try to start your phone in recovery mode then choose the wipe cache partition option. This will delete the temporary files stored in your device that could be using up most of the internal storage space.
If the storage issue still occurs then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Remove SD Card Error
Problem: When I insert my memory card it says it’s inserted & then later on it says to remove the sd card. And it also says to format it
Solution: Try taking out the microSD card and inspect its metal contacts. Does it have any dirt present? If necessary, clean the contacts using a pencil eraser. Insert the microSD card back to your phone then start your phone in recovery mode and wipe its cache partition. Restart the device normally then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then try to use a different microSD card on your phone as the one you have right now could be defective.
