Note 4 Screen Would Not Turn On

Problem: Thank you in advance for taking the time to review the issue that I am having with my Samsung Note 4.  About a month ago, the phone was left in the car at night where the temperatures dropped down below freezing.  When I went to get the phone from the car the phone screen would not turn on, but the blue light flashed indicating that I had a message.  Pushing all buttons possible, holding them down, different sequences, the screen would not turn on.  It wasn’t until I pulled the battery and put the battery back in before the screen turned back on.  It happened again when my wife and I were playing in the snow and it was in a pocket.  I had to pull the battery for longer than 30 seconds in order for the phone to regain life.  Is there something with cold temperatures and battery issue?  Please advise.

Solution: While smartphone manufacturers have taken into account the different environments that the phone will be used in it is always best to operate the phone in normal temperatures. When the temperature drops below freezing point the first component that will be affected is the battery which will perform poorly in sub zero environments. Since this phone uses a Li-Ion battery it is affected by the drop in temperature. At 0 degrees Celsius the internal impedance of the battery increases resulting in a reduction in the voltage it provides. This is probably the reason why your phone became unresponsive. When left in below zero temperatures for a long time the battery has a tendency to be discharged quickly and get damaged. It is therefore important that you ensure that the battery stays warm to avoid these issues.

The advances made in Li-Ion battery technology today however have  increased the minimum temperature threshold that it can withstand. This is important for medical devices that are powered by batteries and operating in the cold. Samsung may have incorporated this technology for their phone batteries making their devices perform well in extreme cold conditions.

Note 4 Switches On But Screen Is Black

Problem: My phone is switching on fine but the screen is black.I have tried holding power and volume buttons together but still screen remains black..could it be the tempered glass which i put on it. Please help

Solution: If you suspect that the tempered glass is causing the problem then try to remove it first. In most cases such as this however when the screen is black and the phone is still receiving notifications and calls the problem is with the display itself. you should however check if there are other factors causing this problem first. Try starting your phone in recovery mode first. If you are able to see the various options in this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so be sure to do this only if you have recently made a backup of your phone data.

If the phone is unable to access the recovery mode due to the screen still being black then this is most likely a hardware problem already. I suggest you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Right Side Of Screen Freezes

Problem: Right side of the screen freezes showing a  vertical grey screen with the other left side working well. I have reset the device several times, taken the battery out and tried everything i can think of to no success. I noticed that the screen  on the grey side still responds to touch but I can’t see what I am clicking. for example I can still swipe etc. grey screen comes on and off randomly, thanks for your help

Solution: If you already did a factory reset with the problem still persisting then it this is most likely a hardware related issue possibly caused by a damaged display. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Got Dropped Won’t Turn On

Problem: Recently, my mom dropped my phone, not so the screen would crack, but the phone screen stopped working. The LED light would be red, and the charging screen would show up, but the phone would not turn on.

Solution: Try taking out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear its RAM. Reinsert the battery then try to turn on the phone. If it still does not turn on then connect it to its wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. Check if the phone turns on.

If the issue still persists then the phone hardware may have been affected by the drop. I suggest you bring your device to an authorized service center and have it checked.

Note 4 White Noise On Screen

Problem: Half of the screen vertically get white noise screen just like TV screen. The digitizer still work but half of the screen white noise. I’ve removed the screen with digitizer and try on other note 4, it is working fine.  How to fix it?

Solution: If the screen and digitizer of the this phone does not have a problem when placed in another device then the problem could be with the motherboard itself or the connection between the display/digitizer and the motherboard. You should also check for any software related issues that may be causing this problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in the phone yet. Check first i the white noise still appears.

If you have the correct tools available then you should start checking the motherboard and the connection between the motherboard and the display/digitizer. It’s also a good idea to have the device checked at an authorized service center.

Note 4 Remote Control Icon Freezing The Phone

Problem: An kind of remote control icon appears suddenly on the screen (all screens). This icon can moved on the screen by not removed. If clicked on, the screen get stuck – the touch screen stop functioning, but keep displaying.

Solution: This remote control icon was introduced into your device during the latest software update. This is the Peel Smart Remote which apparently has a bug that will freeze the device. To fix this issue you need to access the application manager and look for the app. If you can uninstall it then do so otherwise you need to disable the app. Restart the phone after disabling or uninstalling the app.
