Note 4 Can’t Update Apps

Problem: Everything works except I can’t update any apps. I have done a soft reset and stopped apps. Running in the background.  Also cleared cache. Phone still downloads info from google. When app is downloading the update bar is now moving at the same speed but instead of being a short bar moving from left to right it is much longer.

Solution: There are several reasons why your phone can’t update any app in your phone.

The first and foremost thing to consider is your connection to the Internet. There may be a problem with the connection mode. To check if this is the case try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network or try to use your mobile data connection.

Next, you should check if your phone is running on the latest software update. If your phone is still stuck on the previous software version then there is a possibility that you will be unable to update your apps as the update may be designed to work with the new software version.

Another factor that can cause this is the lack of internal storage space in your phone. Check if you have still enough free space in your phone. If little space is left then you have to free up some space by transferring some of your personal data to the microSD card, uninstalling apps that you don’t really use, or wiping the cache partition of your phone.

If the issue still persists at this point then you can go ahead and backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Stock Music App Crashes

Problem: The music app that comes installed on the phone keeps crashing. It will play a few songs & then it quits. I  have cleared the cache but it has not resolved my issue.

Solution: Try clearing the data as well of the stock music app. If the problem still persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data stored in your device that could cause the problem.

Another thing to consider is the music file that you are playing and the storage location. Try to play a single music. If it finishes playing then have your music app play the song in a continuous loop. If it doesn’t crash then there’s a possibility that the issue is caused by the other music files that you have on your device. Another possibility is the storage location. If you are playing music files from the microSD card then this card could be causing the issue. Try to transfer a few songs to your phone internal storage then play these songs. Check if your phone still crashes.

Another factor that can cause this issue is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case you need to start your phone in Safe Mode. I this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if the music app crashes in this mode. If it doesn’t then the issue is likely caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finally if the above troubleshooting steps fail consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this and check if your phone is running on the latest software update.

Note 4 Remote Icon Pop Up Freezes Phone

Problem: After an upgrade on Saturday I had the remote icon pop up and as noted it froze up and locked my phone. I did the battery reset and it reappeared with the same problem. I removed battery a second time and when the phone came back I was able to uninstall the app. Was that the right thing to do?

Solution: This icon is from the Peel Remote App. While other device owners have disabled this app from the application manager, uninstalling the app also works. It appears that this app has a bug that freezes the phone. By now the app developer may already be aware of it and is coming up with an update to fix the problem. If you need to use this app in the future then just download it from the Google Play Store. Make sure to check if it is the updated version.

Note 4 Apps Missing After Software Upgrade

Problem: Last night I received an upgrade to version 5.1.1 (N910VVRU2BPA1) and I accepted the upgrade.  It removed close to 50% of my installed apps on the phone.  Has anyone seen something like this?

Solution: Sometimes this issue can be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try to restart your phone then check if the missing apps now appear.

If restarting the phone fails to resolve the problem then check if the missing apps are installed in the internal storage of your phone or if you moved them to the microSD card. If you moved the affected apsp to the microSD card then it’s possible that this is the reason why they are missing. If this is the case then you need to download the affected apps again.

If your apps are installed in the internal phone storage then try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data in your phone and usually works in this type of issue.

Note 4 Not Downloading Apps

Problem: I have a problem, my phone doesn’t want to download anything not even update the apps that I have  and I am not sure what it is because it does not give me any error message. Not sure if the problem is the Software or what.

Solution: Have you tried to check if you phone is connected to a stable Internet connection? Try connecting to different Wi-Fi networks or use your mobile data subscription then check if the problem still occurs.

If it does then see if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if you can download or update apps in this mode. If you can then the issue could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still persists at this point then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Updating Contact List

Problem: The contact app has a problem after I update my device ..which is when I open contact app i can’t see my contact list it just shows me “Updating contact list”all the time . ( I am saving my contact in the SIM card only)

Solution: To fix this problem turn off the master sync switch of your phone. Once sync is disabled restart your device then open the Contacts app. If your contacts now appear you can proceed with turning on the sync feature of your phone.

Sometimes after performing the above procedure the problem will still occur. If this is the case then try to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode first. If this fails to resolve the problem then proceed with backing up your phone data then do a factory reset.
